These are great units when they are working properly. I have repaired dozens of them over the years. It has many more features over the B&K 2040/1040 counter part. Again it was aimed for strictly cb repair. I really liked the IF generator, crystal tester and built in frequency count along with...
Thanks Brett,
I have found the D104 does work pretty good with the 101's. I have used amplified and non amplified ones. Sorry to hear about the broken heel. Hope that gets better for you soon so you can get back in radio.

The best thing to do is never input power of any level into a 8640b.
It is not a transmit tester to begin with. Although right on the front of the SG there is a tag that say 50 watts input MAXIMUM. And it is only there to help prevent a problem if you accidently key the radio into it.
Thank you.
Yes I am planning on doing that in a "Shop Talk" video one of these days. I need to get online and find another Royce radio to sacrifice a PLL can from.
From my good friend Lazarus,
40 ch Royce like the 625 for example. Remove the PLL can or "sardine can" as a few like to call it. Put it in a box and wire it up, Build an attenuator and you have it. just need to ass a audio source.
Signal tracer is a very simple device. An amplified speaker with a probe coupled to it will work. Radio Shack made a "mini amplified speaker" that I have used many times. Google DIY signal tracer and you will see just how easy they are to build...
No Royce does not make a signal generator. "They" being the PLL cans from a Royce radio makes a good cheap signal generator. That is if you know how to modify one of them.
