Hello again Mr. NZ8N,
Yes, Sir. I think I got what your getting at. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Are you saying to run the Si5351 at ~5 megahertz and let L22 triple that to ~15 megahertz, meanwhile add the VCO to the ~15 megahertz then obtain funnies based on the tripling action of L22...
Well now you've got me thinking about mixers and now may have to run some experiments. Sound like a fun way to pass a few more days before school
starts again.
As for my Cobra 29, and I appreciate your Expo100 A+ advice, the mod on trasmission1 looks really cool and I think I'm going to give...
I understand the logistics of how to derive the +/- 5 kilohertz and 10. I was in wonder of what circuit you would use to actually pull a crystal that far from its fundamental frequency and still remain stable.
And here I, again, was in wonder of running two oscillators so close in frequency...
I think this is the TT way in the video but hes kept the tx VCO+loop and created a -5 kilohertz slider on the 5 megahertz oscillator which allows operation on the 5s instead of 0s then slide back when using the rx VCO+loop.
Anyway, thanks again for the reply's. I learned alot by following...
I see. This idea is pretty cool.
I must admit it took me a bit to figure out how it works.
I assume that you can select any pair of crystals and I assume that there are 4 crystals, one used as the 10.695 transmit oscillator meanwhile the other three are 15.81, 15.36, and finally 14.91 and...
Hello NZ8N! How are you today?
I hope you would be so kind as to help me understand.
As an example say, channel 1 TX (Stock)
VCO = 1.365 + 15.36 +10.240 = 26.965 (Channel selector on Channel 1)
Does your mixer scheme add .450 to VCO output?
(1.365 + .450) = 1.815 +15.36 +10.240 = 27.415...
Hello NZ8N. I hope all is well going for you. Is there any traction on your PLL Modification board? Send the gerber off the get the PCB working? I'm so excited to get this circuit of yours installed and working..The way you describe it I can't help but to think of that in my cobra 29..
I was...
Dear Mr. Dallas
I went through the video at .06 times the speed and I did see about 90% on the negatives, albeit not a great deal of times, which leads me to believe there is no compression or limiting, which you have already stated, and to me, IMHO, the waveform shows a lack of audio power...
Thanks for the clarification on the 25 and 29.
Sounds really cool. I'm trying to visualize this in operation and I think I'm stuck on how to get more bands of 40 if the pll is tricked in to thinking its always in receive. Will your board replace the 15.36 megahertz signal? Or do you have...
The frequency counter on the video does track properly on transmit and receive and it is read directly off the VCO + loop signal . Actually I didn't understand at first but things are starting to make more sense to me because I spent a good portion of yesterday studying the PLL and how its used...
Hello Astec
Here is a metric butt load of information on the 858. Some may apply and some not but I sincerely hope it does help you.

Thanks very much for the history lesson! Its always nice to hear from someone who has been there and done that.
The video shows also frequencies above channel 40, now Im really puzzling over this.
That looks pretty neat. Would I be able to use a frequency counter with this? That is what I...
Okay thanks for the clarification. I guess I posted this in the wrong thread. My apologies.
In all honesty I had to look up what an Expo A kit was and I did notice there are two crystals with 14.91 and 15.81 megahertz not a single 5 megahertz. So my question, if allowed to ask, is with...
Mr. Retro CB guy,
Thank you for the Thank you. There are several other videos where things are explained in more detail from this "TT" the answer to your question may be located in the text of the videos then again maybe not.
Happy Radio, Friend
Dear Mr. Retro CB guy
I think the point in the video is separating the 10.240 reference oscillator and injecting 10.695mhz into the TX oscillator which makes the radio run on 1 VCO frequency not 2 but I'm not an expert. I just happened across your question and was "following" this persons...
So I think the secret is to take 1/2 turn off the driver coil to wake up the 2314. I bought some and didn't make any extra power I thought it chalked up as bad copy's. As a matter of fact I saw less power until I did the driver coil mod. Looked real good on the oscilloscope too.
Hello Everyone,
Sorry to post gain but how many mA does it take to bias the fet? I was considering heat dissipation on the 317 and what it may have to endure with an input of 13.8 volts regulated to 3.8volts. This was topic talked about in my ham group this evening.
