OK. Here's an observation I just accidentally discovered. The aftermarket power cords for both Galaxies have fuses in power and ground side. Both radios had the ground 4A fuse blown. The only way they were grounding was thru the antenna shield from the amp. How much of that squeals and whistles...
It's nice, because if I need to move it, I just have to disconnect the main line to the antenna and unplug the Anderson connector from the power supply and it is completely disconnected. I have a couple grp31 commercial batteries I have a pigtail for if I really need mobile for some reason, or...
The bead I was using is the one on the right. These are the 3 I have currently available.
I had just the one on the positive only. Would there be any gain in having a ferrite on it? or would I just be wasting time/money?
Also a picture of my setup I was trying to describe.
Just curious as to what you used for the cool air.
I like those keyboard duster cans. You turn them upside down and they spray a liquid that can freeze something. Judicial use of it does amazing things. Plus, the straw can make
a pinpoint spray.
A quick description of my setup. Galaxy 939 with a Galaxy DX88HL, strapped together with steel strap, mounted on the "bottom" of a milk crate on its side. A Superstar 400 AB1 class amp mounted to the "top" of the crate above the 2 radios. Using a separate D104 Silver Eagle for each. I have a...
What if you made a bracket that you screwed into the cavity that the cup holder closes into, and mount the radio into the cavity? If I am remembering right, those holders are wide enough to fit a Cobra 29 in, and I think those Bearcats are a little smaller. Just don't do any hard stopping with...
Just curious..
How can there be any difference in a 102? Better quality metal? Figuring it is just a length of tapered stainless steel, not like a fiberglass that by changing the winding design would change its performance. I always figured a length of stainless is a length of stainless - find...
How would that Starbuster design compare to a Solarcon A99 with ground plane? Thinking ahead for next time I have to bring that A99 down, as I want to get it a little higher up (26" at the moment), so pondering my routes..
I've been wondering how you'd drop a tower if I was to find one for a steal. I'm half tempted to go a couple houses down and ask the homeowner if I could have their tower if I drop it - the TV antenna on has one piece left hanging down on it, rest are gone.
This post made me google it, watched...
OK, I am tired of the drift and waiting for it to preheat before use, and want to put a "heater" in there to preheat the frequency section so it is always warmed. Where is the best place to put one?
I'm thinking a light bulb, of the 194 style, with the socket hot glued to the top cover just...
That's one of the ones I found last night. There's a guy, Harvey Roman, on YouTube that has a 2 part video doing it, but they aren't the best videos. It shows him tearing it apart and putting the new parts in, but no comparison of before/after or even a sample of the "after".
Ok, now that I have figured out the multi-quote feature...
I've been eyeballing conversions and upgrades lately, just curious one what one you did.
Same here, what upgrade did you use?
I'm asking because I've seen everything from a cap/resistor style replacement, to a full FET based...
My main concern is the parts behind the dash. I get drips from the air intake box screwed to the bottom of the cowl at times, or the gasket between the windshield frame and cowl seeps. They drip down on the actual workings of the radios at times. I also want to protect from condensation.
I was at the local bolt and nut house, and saw they had this spray on the shelf. I've been thru a few stereos and one CB so far, as my CJ5 is not the most waterproof, even with the top on. I was curious if I was to spray this on both sides of the boards inside, if it would help if the windshield...
I use one on a Galaxy 88HL and a Galaxy 939, both have mic gain knobs. Just set the mic gain around the 3/4 point, turn the D104 gain up just before it squeals. Then just use your mic gain on the radio to control it from there.
FYI, I just used Deoxit on the Reed switches in mine, and that...
Around here I just get the locals on 21 who are all about 10-15 miles away, they can only hear me with help but they come in decent barefoot. My old A99 needs a little more elevation, 24' has the tip about level with the rooftop.
I do have female on CH17 local, I believe across town (doubt...
Thanks for the tips.
I will say, the tip Mudman said of putting the coax thru the seal is an idea. It isa Wilson, and they use that 2-pc PL connector design I love, unscrew the big piece and fish the smaller part thru a smaller hole. I could probably stretch a small hole over the small end, so...
