Got a Galaxy DX - 55V (EPT360014B) on the desk. This radio came from the old local technicians shop when he quit the hobby years ago. It was taken from the shop with this issue already, he never got it fixed before he quit the hobby, so I don't have any info on what caused this failure.
Issue...
Check the solder spots on the bottom of the board for J17. I've seen several radios on my desk with loose solder joints on J17. Also, check RF Power control.
Got a Ranger RCI-69 (1st edition) on the desk today.
Reason for being on my desk:
Blowing finals not long after being replaced.
Evaluation:
The last final (RT1) shorted and next to last final (RT1) weakened, then popped.
I've replaced these mosfets once before about 2 months ago, then the...
They both bought their RCI 29s straight from Ranger, then sent them to Superior CB for the work, then sent them back to ranger for the repairs but ranger sent them back to Superior CB for the repairs. So, it's either Ranger with bad batches or the Superior CB work. No one else has been in them...
I have the mfj-870 Grandmaster meter, and the big brother mfj-868 true peak reading meter.
On dual final rigs, I normally see around 28w to 35w max output on my 870, but on my 868 I see around 50w.
Reason being, although the 870 claims to be PEP, it is actually peak. The 870 corresponds...
RCI 29 base update, AGAIN!!!
Both guys got their radios back a couple months ago. Been waiting to see if anything pops up before giving another update:
One of the RCI 29's are still working fine after sending it back to RCI for new mosfets. This was the one that talked the radio to death...
His handle is Smokey, located in Rockwell North Carolina, and hangs on channel 1 or channel 40. When skip rolls around, see if y'all can hit him up on one of those channels so you can hear how it sounds.
Well, I did not get to do the 959-300 I wanted to do. But a local that does a little tinkering with electronics wanted to try putting it on a Galaxy 55v.
I helped him out here and there on the schematics cross references, since they're both different boards. Everything went great, no hiccups...
Without retuning all the RF stage afterwards, it may look a little nasty, but not that bad. After a retune of the entire RF stage, cleans the signal on the scope and spectrum analyzer right up.
Is this the write you are talking about?
Post in thread 'uniden Washington Key Up Noise' https://www.worldwidedx.com/threads/uniden-washington-key-up-noise.247551/post-688996
Just noticed a couple things I'm curious of with this radio.
1. The S-Meter swings backwards on received signals.
2. Transmit has a poot (fart) sound when keying up. All limiters are intact and no power mods applied, but still have a fart sound when keying up.
Everything else on this radio is...
Fixed!!!
D20 had a 5.6uh choke tied to it.
I removed the choke and placed D20 back to stock.
D35 had a jumper across it. I removed the jumper to go back stock.
D37 had a jumper across it. I removed the jumper to go back stock.
CT1 was the wrong value. Left it in place but tied a 10pf disc...
I removed that choke from D20 and put the diode back in it's place. I have the choke laying on my desk. Should I do what you stated above on where to place the choke?
Also, why can't I get the USB trimmer cap for the PLL synthesizer oscillator no lower than 34.9880? Should be 34.9875 right...
Got a beautiful Uniden Washington (8719 PLL) on the desk today.
Issue(s):
USB and LSB doesn't have the same tone on receive or transmit. Trebly sounding.
Expo kit acting up.
Evaluation:
D20 has a 5.6uh choke tied on to the banded end and goes to empty hole where banded end of D20 was lifted...
Took the recap great. All caps, even the 50v caps.
Took the realignment great. Receive is amazing now. Beautiful sounding receive.
Limiter back in place.
R131 back in place.
No audio mods/hacks anymore.
AM swings to around 20w PEP (14w peak) with variable key turned wide open (6w). Swings to...
