I've been getting around 42w to 53w on a lot of these dual final radios lately. But then again, most of those radios looked factory with factory finals and such, whereas this one has been boogered with and by the looks of it abused. I'm assuming the finals are just weak.
Everyone says it sounds...
Got an old school Mirage 88 on the desk today. Basically a Galaxy DX-88HL. This used to be the personal radio of a local "tech", ehhh, from years ago. I knew the man personally, and he was good at antenna building and amp building. Well, after looking over this radio, I can't say the same on his...
I've seen several galaxy, Connex, general, etc...10 meter exports with variable key mods done to them, but haven't ran across one yet with the proper way of adding a variable key to a Hi/Lo power switchable radio until this radio.
It's a Connex 3300 mobile with Hi/Lo switched RF Power switch...
Was talking on this radio last night, and getting great audio reports. The guy that's getting it wanted it like it is, so I gave it to him. And yes it does sound amazing on the air, I talked to him last night after he got it home and hooked up. He said his meter is showing halfway between 25w to...
Not sure how it ended up with a clean signal. Only the fundamental frequency spike pops up when I key up on my spectrum. Normally I see a little bit of a second harmonic and a few little booger bumps on the analyzer with 29's/78's, etc...
The clean signal even with the cap/resistor combo has...
Just got done with an old, old school Cobra 29 LTD Classic (sidemic). This radio is bone stock, other than the cap/resistor combo (470uf 25v + 56 ohm 1w) in place of JP36. This radio has the stock final and driver in it with no power/tweak mods at the final (R56, etc...). No parts are clipped or...
Got a Road King RKCB Classic (UT414) on the desk. It was given to me in a trade, and now a new guy on the air wants a nice 40 channel radio but can't afford much, so I decided to fix this one and set it all up for him. I'm giving it to him because it was given to me and he can't really afford...
Hi all,
As many of you know, AI is now upon us. Some of the AI units seems to produce sensible answers, but then there are those that spit out garbage. The AI technology can be very useful at times, depending on which AI you use.
Lately I've been using an AI service provided by the Brave...
Turns out L6 wasn't seated properly together.
Went through voltage checks, alignment and receive alignment 5 times, always ended up with the same results. Was starting on the receive alignment again for the 6th time, when I got to L6 and noticed a snap noise while pressing down on L6, BOOM, the...
Got a Galaxy Melaka base on the desk.
Issue:
Weak receive, high static noise.
Constant 3db of signal with heavy hash noise. Local strong stations only put about 6db on the meter (with meter turned wide open). All modes. Transmit is great, other than SSB sounds distorted (all limiters still...
I recently ordered around 25 PL259 ends that were listed as Teflon center from American Radio Supply.
I've always thought the Teflon ends had a yellowish tan or brown center color while the plastic foam centers were all white.
Well, these are listed as Teflon, but they're white centers.
The...
Update 2:
After talking on it a few hours I noticed the meter seemed a little floppy and would at times not show the correct signal on my locals as it was just a few moments earlier. I also noticed a slight change in the sound of the receive.
For the meters, I figured I should spray them with...
I paid 50 bucks for this radio off of Craigslist. It wasn't listed as a CB radio, it was listed as only "Amateur radio for sale". Now I have me a practically brand new 2547 for just 50 bucks and about 25 cent on a VR.
Update - FIXED:
Replaced variable resistor (VR14) with a new VR. Reinstalled passthrough reg, AF reg, etc...i had removed to check.
Now:
AM - carrier varies from 1w with RF power all the way down, to 3.80w with RF power all the way up.
AM swing around 18w peak, at about 8w average.
SSB - 18w...
Hmmm, interesting...
I rechecked VR13 and VR14 again. Must have skipped VR14 the first time around, but this time in circuit showed no ohms on both outer leads. Although VR13 showed 1,093 ohm (1K) on the outer leads. Yanked out VR14 to check it out of circuit and still no ohms (no indication on...
Already replaced Q53, Q54, Q55 and Q56. I also checked D102, D103 and D109 out of circuit, they checkout fine on tester. And resistors in this area all checkout fine. Haven't checked the disc caps in this area though.
I can short out the collector and base of Q55 and get a full 18w carrier on...
