Ahhh gotcha. Unsure if doing the clarifier mod is messing with stuff. I did it to my 140 GTL radios a few months ago,but didnt need to add extra stuff as I was not after the extra slide etc...
I forget off hand, but a few here can chime in about the 142 GTL. Isn't CT3 affected overall with the LSB adjustment? Or maybe it was the AM adjustment.. I thought with one out, it will make the CT3 adjustment off etc...
With the clarifier unlocked, just make sure the knob is centered up, and...
The one I did buy for $15 in early 2020, it was sold "as is" from a local facebook listing. Of course, it powered up, but the moment you keyed up, POP went the fuse... :)
A replacement of the final and it was happy once again. Gave it to my wife and she ran it in her previous car for a long...
It was a good laugh this morning that the radio is worth $20. :) I would be glad to pay $20 for one. I kept all of my TRC-465 radios. The Uniden 122 is the same but for some reason that one on AM does much better vs the other 4 TRC-465 radios I have.
Usually the first step is to try to work with thy neighbor on the interference issue, but as you stated they are basically not approachable. I only have interference on Channel 23 that has a weird intermittent noise in a pattern. I just wrote it off as it is a neighbor's device of some kind...
Unsure if there is much you can do. even the eham reviews had a couple where:
"Inherently, bass voice tones are VERY emphasized while mid-tones are muddy. High tones, despite the claimed brightness boost at 2 KHz, are almost missing. Hence clarity and the brightness clarity requires is just not...
Awesome you fixed it. Information like this is great to have. Why Forums will reign king for information. Forums have been around much longer than Facebook so there is still a ton of good information.
May not be the case for yours, but most of my PC66 and PC68 radios had cold solder joints just before the PLL chip area. Maybe poke around with a plastic piece around the board underneath in various areas and see if it will come to life again and hear static. Turn up your rf gain, hook up yer...
Thanks for the tips. Once I get some stuff done this AM I may try that. Only thing that I could think of see where the board gets the voltage from once the clarifier wire is off. This way, you can grab the 5v and feed it into it using the clarifier to that spot... Just thinking out loud. :)
Soldered the wire straight to ground, but that hardly makes any changes during transmit. Nothing even noticeable when you adjust the clarifier potentiometer.
I looked again at the potentiometer, and its only the 2 wires. It still seems that the red wire is going directly to ground, and when you transmit it disconnects it.
I will have a look at the other model you have and see how close they are. Thanks. :)
