Hello,
I was hoping someone would know how to get the clarifier unlocked on this old Kraco KCB-2340. Tried to do some searching but couldn't find much information on it. I do see just 2 wires going up to the clarifier, so hoping there is a way to just get the TX to follow. The board is a...
Gonna bring out my oldie Kraco 23 channel SSB De Luxe lol. I do have the base SSB model as well, but the knobs are basically shot and seized. Meant to replace them and get that one back up and working. I got both of them I think in 2021? Cheap on eBay at the time.
I think I have 4 of them total. The one here with me developed an issue where the audio during transmit at peaks sounds distorted. It may be a cap issue since it still has all the originals in it. I might try it again to be sure. Otherwise the radio was fine.
Dang that corrosive glue! ;) Just scrape/clean what you can off. Don't gotta go overboard but usually I just use my fingernails to scrape off whats on the resistors, and I got some soft wooden picks for the others. By the looks of it, its the Sears Roadtalker SSB radio that is basically a...
I have two of the TS-430S radios. Had to change out the filter relay board as some bands stopped working and did the preventative maintenance to the amp board so the finals don't decide to full throttle and burn up.
TS430S Repair Information
I don't think AM is that great on the radio...
Ugh... I hope not... That means any of the CBs I replaced caps on using that cap will eventually show up problems. :/ Time to make note of it and if im currently using the radio, pop the lid off and have a look.
My guess was a final that decided to rock itself. A Uniden 122 I picked up for $15 a few years ago was doing the same thing. When I keyed up, it would blow the 3 amp fuse. Put in a new final and has been working since. Not to say that is your same issue, but a good chance it is out that direction.
The cap that did bulge was C48, a 470uf on the Cobra 29 GTL. Same area by the looks of it. I did find a schematic to be sure I didnt put in the wrong value back in it, but it does say 470uF.
I just hope it isn't a common problem with every GTL radio out there. Least maybe certain revisions? But good idea to see the voltage on it during transmit or receive. Thanks for chiming in.
Very well may be it. I just found it surprising that after short use for a couple days, then shelfing it for a few years, it leaked the way it did. First time any of the radios I have do that.
Hello,
Decided to have another look inside a Cobra 29 GTL I picked up a couple years ago. Seen that one basically blew its entire casing off (I have the picture somewhere on my computer). Replaced that capacitor and the one near it that looked a little rough. Radio did work ok.
Last night, I...
Again.... Basic solder skills one can easily make their old SSB radio last very long....
Let someone new in the hobby buy a new SSB radio and burn it up just as fast because they don't understand how to set it up.... I know someone who failed to check their engine oil and thought it lasts...
Good thing I can desolder good and replace all the electrolytic capacitors. :) All the older SSB base radios like the 139 XLR and the 142 GTL of mine have had the capacitors replaced. Should outlast even me when its time to push daisies.
It isn't expected that everyone who is into radios...
I have the mobile Royce SSB radio I picked up for $40 a few years ago. Really didn't know what I was getting into. It works, but the receive is for sure not the best. Noisy for what it is and struggles to pick up as good as lets say a Cobra 146 GTL.
I got some 23 Channel Royce radios from the...
