I mighta lucked out with the FQP13N10s in a set of 4 as thats how I bought the pack of 5. Unsure if they are matched?
Been trying to look up how to go about building something so I can try and make sure they are matched. Would you have a link to build something that would do the job?
Thank you so much! Makes the task easier doing it this way. The first 203P is now running good. :) I will do the same for this other older red 203 in the coming days. I only have 1 more original 203P from around 2011 when I bought it with the stock mosfets in it. Hoping it still runs for more...
Impressive! Stuff goes beyond my comprehension but nice that you are able to do it. Might be best to have someone more qualified than myself to recap and go through the old Palomar 350z of my old mans one of these days.
One more question,
Is it best to key the amp by jumping TR1 so that the AM carrier from the radio doesnt mess with the measurement? Unless when it keys up, The ma measurement doesnt get affected by modulation. :)
Thank you so much for this information.
I think the current way I was doing it was changing R2 to a 20KVR, and measuring the voltage of the Gate's pin.
I think putting the the multi meter in series and checking the ma would be smartest to set at R2 vs trying to read the voltage.
Even...
That might be something that I was missing. I was under the assumption that the transistor just needs enough voltage coming in to turn on. From factory I believe it was showing something like 1.2v? Which would be too little for the transistor to turn on? I am probably wording things wrong, but...
Hello.
Something I noticed when trying to set the gate bias voltage of the RM Italy amp I was trying my hands on to fix, it seems that setting the voltage of the gate bias to 3.6v, the amp would behave erratically on SSB. The relay sometimes would not click back off, and the relay would...
100% agreed. My next bad decision was to work on the radio at 5AM (Central Time) since I am already up. Allergies are whipping me into shape. Think I will hold off. :)
Unsure as I don't have an O-Scope (Some day hope to get one.) But for now I just limit my SSB watts to 10, and the AMC I also limit to 8 watts. Hoping limiting it that way won't be distorting my audio. Least it sounds fine on the other radio.
I did the 22k resistor that you did. I must say it made a great improvement! Thank you very much. So far did it for both of my 140 GTL radios, and will do it for my 3 Base 142 GTL radios whenever I get them from Nevada.
Yep.... After some sleep, I realized I undid the wrong resistor.... I will put it back and remove R187...... Somehow my mind read it as 137 last night and I was a bit tired... Oops! :) Will report back later...
Hello,
I got a couple of Cobra 140 GTL radios that are behaving this same exact way. 1st one has been full recapped. 2nd one has its stock capacitors in it except 2. Both have had the AM regulator changed out to an NTE-152. I did unlock the clarifier on both radios. Removed a leg off D36 and...
I appreciate it. The radio sits up really high in the garage's shelf so I don't touch the radio for awhile. :) From what I was able to do at the time, bias checked out fine and the driver/final checked out good. Even put in another set just to be sure. Diodes were ok on both sides and nothing...
Thank you very much for that information. I went ahead and did that to my wife's good working Uniden 122. Added the 2.2 ohm resistor in series with L32, then did the 180 ohm resistor on VR9 to the circuit board ground.
Do these problems exist with the older radios like the TRC-451 and the Cobra...
Also, after checking the gate bias, it was at 1.26v. I will hold off on that amp until I can pick up some trimmer resistors and set the bias correctly. Those mosfets were calling for 2v-4v.
Next time around I will try some IRF520 mosfets. Even if some of the power is lost, that is better than a non working amp. Thanks for letting me know the part is obsolete.
