I got lucky and bought one the summer of 2017 off eBay for about $50. I didn't realize the difference till it came in the mail. I thought maybe the chrome was really faded or needed a cleaning, but thats when I knew the colour was different.

There are only the 2 variances of the 449, but internally I dont think there are differences. :) I have the matte grey colour faceplate as well as 3 of the chromes. Here is a picture off google that wasn't the chrome faceplate.

I couldn't find the one I did back in 2019, so I just remade it.

I think I have a radio or two that chirps. Of course much older radios and never got around to recapping the radio. I had one SSB mobile radio where the the modulation of the audio slowly rolled in when you keyed up. I planned to keep the radio so after new caps, that issue went away.

Always appreciate your input on stuff. It was a few years ago when I seen that video that MikesRadioRepair did and mentioned that C179 tantalum cap. I wasn't sure if the generic tantalum caps you buy off eBay was worth risking it, so I just bought some Vishay branded ones.

I have a Cobra 150 amp, and the pre amp on it randomly works. Switch is fine, but its very tempermental. I hardly use pre-amp anyways, so didn't care to look into it to even try and fix it.

I didn't try to upload a video, but might have to. May just render out on 4:3 640x480 so the file sizes are kept smaller.

Only thing I can think of doing is comparing it with other pictures of the saturn base radios off google images.
