I seldom use those pads. They do work nice. But you can over come that very easy once the case in installed. Etch a small board in the shape of the smd pads. Drill some small holes and install pins so you drop the board into the zif socket and lock it down.
I did this but installed 3 color...
You will like the case. I decided not to get one. May end up making my own custom case. Unit is a breeze to assemble. Just watch those resistors. Colors are a little funny and have 5 bands on them.
You mean the one I used in the video?
I posted a video about it here also.

Works a treat.
I have several old tester.
Sencore TF151
RCA WT501A
LOL, that was the importance of watching the video.
I always laugh when I see the word "refurbished" on a used electronic component.
I will say they did a heck of a job cleaning it. No idea what they used. Not a spec of solder on the terminals.
Seems to me China is getting much better when it...
First let me get this out of the way. I would NEVER install a used part in someone’s equipment unless prompted by the owner to do so.
This radio belongs to me.
So in the past I have ordered some parts from China that are indeed fake including some RF power transistors. I ordered a pack of 10...
I ordered and checked out this piece from them.
Ordered on a Thursday and received it on Monday.

Got home real late and found a few packages in my mail, so decided to burn the midnight oil to see if they are any good.
In this video we have a Kenwood ts-2000 that has a blown 2sc5125. No longer available I ordered a refurbished transistor from China. Are they real? Fake? Lets see.

You are correct. no tech bench should be without a ESR tester. I see folks all the time test caps with a DMM for shorts or test wit ha cap meter to see if in tolerance. But we know that equivalent series resistance is a very important factor when it comes to capacitors. You can say it is the...
In this video I take a look at one of the latest component testers from Banggood.com.
This tester comes in kit form and is a pleasure to put together.
Kit cost around $20.00 US dollars and for a few more bucks you can order a case with it.

Tallman has a good suggestion. That works very well. I used this for years and still do at times
But if you want to get more into analyzing signals and using channels A and B on your scope then this circuit will do just that.
With this very easy to build circuit you can look at your RF...
Rather interesting piese of test gear.
Nothing useless about it at all. Just need a seperate scope and spectrum analyzer to go with it.
I am no super tech like the captain here :)
I do have a little bit of gear, but been doing it all my life...
That glue can be very hard like epoxy. A good heat gun will aid in making it pliable. Then use something to pick it off. Dental pic ect. Be careful not to over heat the board and cause components to fall off. Use 99% IPA to clean the board when done. Inspect the traces around the nodes where...
I pay close attention to those caps on the cpu board. They leak after all this time and start to eat the circuit traces away. Also old glue on the cpu board becomes conductive over the years.
That was probably a gold mind lol.
But I understand that it is hard to keep when you have no room. Many many years ago I was buying a house from a person. They went bankrupt. I lost the house. This forced me to move quickly. I had tons of old gear. I moved into a single wide home and had no...
Here are some pics of the broken mess.
I started sorting out all the little parts to see if any were missing. So far it is all there.
I was able to glue all of the bezel back together. What I am going to do now is cut out a very thin piece of copper sheeting to glue to the back. This will...
