With some practice you will get pretty good at winding coils. You can't buy them. With the right size wire they can be maid. Don't be scared. The first time someone told me I have to wind my own I thought I can never do this. Sometimes you do not get something just right and have to do it again...
Just curious... You said the meter does not swing. But what is the output power on the radio? There is a setting for AM and Sideband meter adjustment on that radio. With no mods that radio will only do about 18W possible 20W clean.
I did not realize this thread was still going. Some time after this post in 2018 or 2019 I ended up with a LP100A. I like it and I don't. like it. When in line you really can not tell if your bench is 50 Ohm. or not. It throws everything off. I did call the manufacturer and he explained that it...
Thanks for the great explanation of how this mod works. I did find that the extra disc cap on the bottom of the board came off the top side ( I cant remember the number off hand ) All I can really say on this radio is it is working great now. And after removing that mod I have no more carrier...
It was sure swinging when I got it working. Especially with a transistor removed making the limiter useless. LOLO. But it came off the bottom of the pile and is now working.
I have had a A99 for years and think it is great. And it tunes in many bands. I believe 12, 15, 17,and possibly 20 Don't hold me to it but all with the radios internal tuner.
I have radios with that mod and never really knew what it was all about. And the radios usually worked hood with that mod. But this particular radio I have would not transmit correctly or transmit tune properly until I removed the mod. They also had a extra disc cap on the bottom of L111 which I...
That is a pretty hefty price tag. So it sounds like they are now making it to the original length. Possibly with a additional section to keep shipping cost down. And almost doubled the price of the antenna.
Not too good. The radio never worked right until I removed it. Showed modulation on FM. Showed most of the time a slight carrier on LSB. And would not tune right. With that mod removed the radio is working perfect although the same output power.
I dug out another from the bottom of the pile and I could not get it right until I removed this mod. I have seen it before. And have 3 radios in my parts radios with this same mod. Funny the mod mind not be too good. All 3 radios in the parts pile are pretty toasted. So here is a picture of the...

I can find sign up but cant find a way to log in. This is using a android phone.
Thanks DR DX. I actually found a place called Hoffman Amps he had a bunch of parts I needed so I ordered the caps. from him along with the other parts. His prices were fair. So I just went with him. Thanks
Andy I actually heard that radio with the capacitor removed and it sounded great. So great I had to have one. But actually the radio was pretty unimpressive power wise. How anything with a 2290 only did a clean 65 to 69 watts. Just a poor design I guess. Wow that was a long time ago. I sort of...
