I have never run a sirio base station antenna though I've had great luck with the P5000 mobile antenna. Works well and fine build quality. I have run several A99s and Imax through the years with great success. I currently run a 20 yr old Imax at 40ft to feed. For what it is.. great.
Future...
If it arrived missing parts and bent wouldn't this be more of a distributor issue than a Sirio issue. Unless you ordered it directly from Sirio (don't think you can)? Whoever sold it to you should have caught the missing hardware and packaged it better to prevent damage.. Many members on here...
I have a 5054 100 watt version as well. It's not my "go to" 6 meter radio because my Kenwood has a much cleaner receiver (as to be expected). I've made several contacts on the 5054 and it seems to work fine.
Had a group of locals on SSB one night and one asked which radio I was running on 6? I...
The washer and/or saw blade goes on the Underside of the roof mount. This way you will most likely destroy your antenna before pulling your mount through a flimsy roof and splitting the roof metal. After dropping the headliner and drilling a hole I would take a wire brush and/or sand paper to...
I have installed a few perm mounts in roofs and ball mounts in quarter panels back in the day. I ran into the flimsy roof issue as well. This was sloved with a large washer on the underside of the roof and in one case we actually used a circular saw blade & washer to distribute flexing strain...
I'm trying to understand this.. you have a mag mount but drilled a hole in the roof for the coax? If drilling your vehicle is of no concern why not ditch the mag mount entirely. Nothing against "Tram" but if it were me I would run a quality permanent mount..(breedlove, sirio, daimond/comet)...
My old TS Killer Bee sits under my truck seat upside-down. To have the heat sink facing up as opposed to into the carpeted floor is a no brainer... I run SSB 95% and don't drive the piss out of it so heat probably wouldn't be an issue anyway. I have gotten good at knowing what does what...
Any "Beefing up" info would be appreciated. I'm thinking of trying out a V4K this spring when I make some antenna changes. It would be at 50 ft to the base. It's durability and strength have been the only factor discouraging me from purchasing one.
Good to make the contract with you as well. Stryker 955 & D104 into an old Palomar 4×mrf455 (350-400) out to a 20 yr old Imax 2K about 36 ft at the feed.
I will be calling on and off throughout the day on 16 lsb.
I worked Japan, Australia, New Zealand, a few other south pacifics.. Hawaii, all over the Caribbean & south America, many European countries and south Africa from my mobile on the last cycle. 2950 driving an old Texas Star killer bee into a 108 inch whip. Breedlove ball mounted to the rear...
I run a 13b2 at 60 ft.. works better than I thought it would. It's fed with 300 watts (if needed) and 1/2 inch hardline. My buddy south of me has run a 17b2 at 125 ft for several years without a problem. With 100 watts he kicks some ass at that height.
