wanting to replace my Maco V5000 with something that has more band width and talks equal or better. i already have up an Imax 2000 that has a lot wide band width and love it, i was woundering if the Vector 4000 has much in the way of band my Maco V5000 sucks band width wise. i run 10,11 & 12...
you won't go wrong with either antenna if you can afford all the nickle and dime stuff that comes along with the instalation. the 400 and 500 are amazing perfomers. as with the rotator make sure you don't go cheap and try to cut corners it will dampen the great experiance you'll have with either...
i know in testing i have done and with what i have up in the air right now i see know real kick "A" difference between the 3 main antennas A-99 Imax 2000 or maco V5000. right now i have all three antennas up at 42' to the feed point all with 112' of 213 coax each with two ground rods and then...
if you do more DXing on SSB then you might want to use a Imax 2000 or a A99 simply because they are very broad banded to give gret SWR's accross a wide range of freq's. you can take 30 watts up into the freebands above channel 40 on ssb and talk to the world on ssb or do a little am dxing below...
Kl203's are good little amps i run one with a uniden washington tuned for it. but if you are looking for a good amp to run for under $250 that you can run on a 35 amp power supply that hard drive and bullet proof check out the Xforce tnt 350 its ab biased for a good clean signal and high drive...
check out the TNT amp line from Xforce. i've been using the TNT350 with great results on a general lee and also with RCI's 2950DX. they can be had for under $250.00 pull less then 30 amps give a good clean signal and with a general lee you will get around 300 watts and it has it's own built in...
i heard him on 20 meters messing with folks saying the same day after day thing on 14.312 usb. the same frequency carl the canadian nut gets on. seems like also 14.312 get lot of bootleggers playing around.
the face on that midland radio is detachable but only for security reasons, once it's removed it does not function. what the manufactors need to make is a radio that you can remove the control head and remotely mount the power unit like the yaesu 857 or icom 7000 hf rigs. i have a yaesu 7900 2...
i sure would 200 to 300 bucks added to the price of a rci 2950dx style radio with a removable face sure would. it still would be less money then a kenwood 480,yaseu 857 or icom 7000.
between the Maco Shooting Star and 4 Element Gizmotchy which one gave you the best ground wave performance. and when horizontaly polarized which worked the best. glad to hear it from some one that has had both.
what would be nice is if one of these manufactors would make a radio with a detachable face to address the needs of mounting radios in the newer vehicles. i have a nice yaesu 7900 2 meter radio that i have the main body of the radio mounted under the seat and the control head mounted on a nice...

i know in looking at beam antenna designs it seems like the only manufactor's that got or get it right with boom length was hygain with the big gun quad and Mosley beam company. seems to me every other beam antenna manufactor has there boom lengths about 2' too short. in testing on a Maco...
you know lot of times some of the biggest offenders on 38lsb are amature operators. it's been several times a few of the guys i have talked to on 10 & 40 meters brag about how they give guys on what they call the chicken band aka {CB} a hard time during the day when they try to talk DX.
i use to run the Frances 8' grey fiberglass whip or the HY-gain 10 pounder both on a ball mount mounted on the trunk lid of a Pontiac Bonniville bonded the snot out if with bonding straps every where. that was the set up with a lot of guys around the watergate in the 70's& 80's the big body cars...
as said before if you live where you have really strong winds and harsh weather patterns get the Jo-gunn but go with the conventional series the tradiotional Yagi designs. they still offer a dual polarity type antenna in the yagi pattern. boom lengths are to short for the gain they advertise but...
