Whichever power supply he decides to buy, I recommend one with variable voltage. I have never exceeded 13.8 volts and most of the time I use 12 to 13 volts.
The Astatic 302-PDC2 will not indicate PEP. If you are going to enter the amplifier field, you should have a meter which can measure / indicate actual PEP or else you will be "winging-it" and that can and will be costly.
"pretty blue one"? That's funny. I have several carpenter hammers with different colored handles and I can hammer nails in with all of them. Lol....lol...lol!
Peak envelope power
researchgate.net
Peak envelope power (PEP) is the average power over a single radio frequency cycle at the crest of the modulation. This is a Federal Communications Commission definition. PEP is normally considered the occasional or continuously repeating crest of the...
OK. I managed to set dead-key on the radio at one-watt and power supply at 13.0 volts. Dead-key is now at 25 watts and PEP is 80 watts! I love it! Thank you!
Good advice Chris!
I (scared as h***) managed to reduce the factory dead-key on the Lincoln II+ for the sole purpose to feed the 203.
I triple-checked the dead-key watts and PEP watts with the BIRD Wattmeter. 2 watts into the 203 equals 55 watts dead-key and 97 watts PEP. With 2 watts, the amp...
Get the 203P. The "P" denotes pre-amp.
The power leads on the 203 are only 12". You will need to add an extension cable.
My personal opinion is to keep the amp as close to the power supply as possible using a minimum of 10 gage wire.
Do not twist the wires together with wire-nuts to connect...
Don't forget about the power supply you will need to provide power to the amp.
I'm running a Lincoln II+ with 2 watts feeding into a 203 and the 203 has a dead-key of 55 watts.
Maybe someone has an idea if the antenna is or is not a CB antenna.
I was given a (possibly) twenty-year old (no coil) base antenna. I have no idea if it is a quarter-wave, half-wave of five-eight wave.
Total assembled length / height of center mast from the coax connector / SO 239 to the top...
One Red 6-gauge wire and one Black 6-gauge wire. 6 gauge has too many strands to twist, tin and insert into the square openings. I removed just enough strands prior to tin so as the wires would fit into the square openings. I'm not in favor of inserting a round wire into the square openings. If...
I've never been bashful (embarrassed, yes) to admit my mistakes. I used a Weller Model D550 200 / 260 Watt Soldering Gun. On my first attempt, I used the incorrect (standard) soldering tip which applied direct and excessive heat to the wire strands! That's when I realized I should have used the...
Yes, I've tried that, but the problem is the strands are so very thin that they started to melt fast as I was applying the heat. I will probably need to locate 6 gauge wire with thicker strands and that might work out OK.
