I have not transmitted on CW but will tonight, the postal driver just handed me the Maxlog about an hour ago. Faint CW beacons on ten meters and the tone is great on receive! Next is to have a go at transmitting with CW.... Da Dit Dah! I can hear WWV, time standard out of Fort Collins...

Possible that you are hearing the RF impulse that the speaker that is picking up stray RF from the transmitter. The speaker wire is the most likely suspect, I would add an RF choke or ferrite 'bead'. You can also use a toroid or split ferrite choke. Just wind it around the toroid or split...

Radio Shack is closing out two short wave receivers, the Grundig GS450DL and the small 20-629 (Clone of the Sangean ATS505). The Grundig is around 65 dollars so no real bargain there.... but I did buy the 20-629 for 27 dollars after discount plus tax and being on sale! Normal price is $71.97...
