Have you priced Hexbeams yet?
For around the same cost you can go with the tried and true "real" beam antenna such as the Yagi design which has a 100 year history and still going!
A typical compact tri-band 3 element Yagi will have more gain than a Hexbeam which is really a 2 element...
For all the work and hassel you would be better off with a compact 3 element Yagi that has true gain.
While the Hex beam does have some forward directivity, it's essentially a contraption of folded dipoles with a small foot print.
Judging an antenna by contacts made isn't a method to determine...
You did an excellent job with your antenna, now just get it up in the air!
I would make the rotor coax loop as close to the antenna feed point as possible.
I use a dual ferrite 1:1 choke balun box which is much better than an air wound coil balun and have the box mounted to the mast above the...
Thank you for your service to our country and welcome to the forum!
Interesting dilemma you have.
A homebrew 1/2 wave dipole like you suggest would need to be 9 ft long for each leg without a loading coil and not practical for your Jeep install.
You could make a dipole out of two identical...
CW is Continuous Wave otherwise known as morse code still used today by Hams. Near the bottom of the amateur bands is where you can hear them.
10 and 12 meters have amateur frequencies in them. Your welcome to listen in but no transmitting without a license.
Perhaps listening in on amateur...
Trucks may have factory antennas installed but these days many drivers don't have a radio much less turn it on if they do.
In what we referred to as the "communist states " which are ones that have discriminatory regs like 55 mph speed limits for trucks and even have sections of Federal...
Welcome to the Forum!
Yes, your answers are correct.
When you change radio's and you see a significant difference in SWR, then the radio's SWR meter(s) are suspect because your antenna system didn't change.
Always best to use a quality external meter to check and tune your antennas and...
Why is that so funny?
That's has to be one of the most treacherous DXexpedition around.
There was no guarantees they would even make the island like their last attempt much less be able to setup a working camp due to constantly changing weather.
Maybe you should assemble a team to go out...
Glad to help!
I meant to say tune your radio to check for the lowest SWR at 28.800 for the center of the band you mentioned between 28.300-29.300 MHz.
To truly operate at a low SWR across a full MHz you'll need a tuner or matching device and adjust it as you make big changes in frequency.
The...
Welcome to the forum!
To help you better you need to tell us what your actual SWR is at on those frequencies. The warning light just tells us that it's high.
That antenna should have enough adjustment on the whip without cutting to tune 10 meters but to get a full MHz of bandwidth at a low...
The way I read it I don't like it.
The 5 channels may be done away with and replaced by 15 kHz of bandwidth and only 15 watts of EIRP used as a secondary basis which it currently is.
Better to just leave it be as it is now then this change.
It's in the public commentary stage now so everyone...
I liked this idea because it will take a lot of stress off the rotor as opposed to directly mounting the rotor on a mast as I done. The company listed in the pic doesn't sell to the U.S. but I found another German company that sells the same item and ships to the U.S. so I purchased them there...
Not a clear pic of the shunt coil to see what you used. It needs to be enameled wire with the ends having the enameled scraped off so it can be attached to a ring terminal and ground.
The Little Tarheel is not likely to benefit from a shunt coil because the antennas has the matching from...
Sounds like you have your tower planned well!
I would go with sched 80 on the mast and use a structural grade aluminum. Better to go as strong as possible with the set-up your doing. 2 inch diameter is what I would use.
I didn't see a thrust bearing mentioned, definitely a must with 2...
I'm looking to sell my light duty Yaesu 450A rotor that's less than a year old. I just upgraded my beam and I needed a heavier duty rotor.
It's perfect for 3 to 4 element mono band 11 or 10 meter beams or VHF/UHF antennas too.
I'm just selling the rotor, no controller or cable. The controller...
