I will be interested to hear the outcome of your problem. I have not found any discussion of bricking the 578 online, so I am hopeful you can resolve your issue easily.
Did you recover from this yet?
Did you reinitialize the radio after the firmware update by holding the P2 button and the channel selector button while powering up the radio ? It should have a screen prompt asking if you want to initialize.
You may try to reinstall the firmware if it failed the...
All the 587s are capable of full Xmit on all three bands. It is simply a software configuration. I haven’t dealt with it in about 6 months, so I would have to refresh my memory. If you have problems, let me know, but the AT_Options app should get you there.
I am on firmware 1.09N. Go to...
You will need a small application to change to mode 14. It’s called AT_Options. Look here for info...http://members.optuszoo.com.au/jason.reilly1/578mods.htm#BandError
Also, if you have programmed your radios already, the current code plug may not be recognized when you open up the radio for...
Both my Anytone 578s are fully opened 136-174/220-225/400-520 (mode 14). I have both a DMR repeater at my house and a GMRS repeater, and I don’t want to deal with separate radios for both (and sorry to those who get butt-hurt over that, but I have news for you...the FCC doesn’t give a f*ck about...
There have been several threads about the status of Mike’s Radio Repair, and many people are understandably concerned about sending radios to Mike, when they can’t have communication with him directly, either by email or phone. I have had some people ask me for his contact info, but when I told...
I also was intrigued with radio as a child. I enjoyed spinning the dial of the AM radio and hearing far away stations, and then being able to play with a shortwave radio and hearing signals from other countries. Of course, this was the early 1960s and we were all still pretty naive, so this...
I’ve been doing the digital VOIP crap for 5 years. If you have any questions about how to configure or program your sh^t, I will be glad to answer any question I can.
I have a YSF Reflector and a couple of talk groups, if you want to talk via VOIP. I can provide those details.
Yep, no more antennas up in the air, only a “QRP” rig connected to a wire running around the room for listening, and a few portable HF antennas (mostly the Chameleon stuff) for operating outdoors...when the spirit moves me (more so for when society collapses totally, and I must have emcomms)...
If you are a ham that is missing the traffic on your local repeaters, and is not interested in operating, or can’t operate, an HF station, then you might find DMR or VOIP operation ok.
If you only enjoy rag chewing on the ham bands (especially V/UHF repeaters) and are NOT so much interested in...
My BC906W worked with the President Lincoln II + and I was able to hear the receive audio through the speakermic and transmit, although I found the transmit audio to be a bit light, since I am used to running Astatic 575 mics on my radios (I only run SSB).
As for the price...yikes !!! I just...
The President Lincoln II+ supplies 13v to pin 6. The Uniden 980 supplies around 8v to pin 6. This voltage powers the wireless microphone cradle.
I have used the BC906W mic with the Lincoln II+, but I have mostly just used it to listen, but it does work. I can’t say if the voltage difference...
I used to do 6 meter AM on a Lafayette HA-460. I had a few nice QSOs on 50.400 during e-skip openings, and a couple of us used to have a Sunday morning ragchew on 50.400.
To their credit, there are some hams local to the region that are doing this now. One area club has a 10m AM net during the...
Yep, The Phil-Mont Radio club is in my area (S.E. Pennsylvania). I have seen this old film before (it’s on their website), and love the boat anchors and the tanks (radios and automobiles).
Too bad hams don’t really use 10m for mobile use these days. Guess they don’t like those longer antennas...
Just some info on the Midland MXT mobile radios...
They are narrowband audio only, so they may sound quieter when received on a wideband receiver or repeater. Many radios (including the Baofengs) will have a menu option to switch between narrowband and wideband audio, but the MXT mobiles do not...
Should work...IF you can manipulate the screwdrivers while doing a reset on the radio (I seem to remember having to do a reset after the solder mod). Those solder pads in the 891 are in a tight space.
Also, as an interesting side note...
I sold my modded 891 to my friend who had the unmodded...
Just a head’s up on the 891 mod... I had bought my 891 within a year of the radio being released (and got hosed by Yaesu when they dropped the price, as they always do). I have a friend who bought an 891 in 2019 and when I went to do the mod, the arrangement of shorted pads from the factory was...
Yes the ad says VHF...
The antennas are exactly the same length.
The antennas are exactly the same diameter when comparing the sections of each antenna.
There are no loading coils or any other component that would alter the resonance of these whips.
Sweeping both whips with my analyzer, they...
