Foolish idea unless you already have the dual coil antenna.
An 8' whip from Radio Shack is MUCH cheaper than the P-10K. Make simple radials out of wire.
Better yet, spend some money on a cheap base antenna as suggested. Don't be surprised if you get what you pay for.
The 142 is better. The 142 is similar to a Uniden Washington.
The 142 has a single conversion receiver whereas the the Cobra 2000 has a double conversion receiver. They are not basically the same.
Its a P-10K (not an I-10K) and if you have a 3/8x24 mount, you can test mine. Its BRAND NEW on a 27" shaft. It is NOT for sale, but I'm always willing to help others see the light!
Here are the albums. The links up top don't work.

I'm concerned with your base stubs. Where are the plates or the T-Base?
And what LOG did you get?
A vertical radiates equally poor in all directions. Unless you put down a decent ground plane, the antenna will only perform marginal. I have two of them here.
You will be MUCH happier with a dipole or an OCF antenna like the Carolina Windom. Stay away from verticals unless you are willing...
You will see no advantage of running the 40 over the 30. Stick with the 30. The Pro III is a great radio!
Want to know what separates a good radio from a GREAT radio?
THE RECEIVER!!!
The PR-40 is designed for the pro audio/broadcasting/recording market. It will provide no advantage to cb/ham radio operations......BECAUSE OF THE RADIO!
The bandwidth of the radio is limited to the design of the audio section. I had a Eagle 5000 briefly which Justin expanded the audio...
Legally, only if type accepted by the FCC for use in that band.
The Uniden radios were type accepted. So was the 10-meter sold by Kenwood and Radio Shack.
Once these radios have been modified, they are no longer legal!
I like the crystal channel kit installed in this radio. (switches above mic connector)
When I first got into radio, the king of the hill was the Cobra 139 base station. This was a 23 channel radio and one crystal would control 4 channels. You could buy a channel kit that replaced one of...
Again again, I make NO CLAIMS about the Z-180. Do not lump me into the group you believe thinks its a 1/4 wave. I have no clue.
As far as bandwidth is concerned, a simple capacitor in the base could extend bandwidth, which makes the antenna less efficient.
