That amp sucks for so many reasons. The broadband input is one. The lack of tubes is another. However, it works!
Here is the conversion info you should have for this amp:
Technical Bulletin 14
The original Francis Amazer was model CB-50 and gray in color. It has 3 1/4 wave wires embedded in fiberglass. It was advertised as a triple quarter wave antenna which people mistook for a 3/4 wave antenna.
The Wheeler Dealer antennas were model CB-28 and came in three colors (red, white, and...
Its NOTHING like a Moonraker nor does it even look like one. A Moonraker is a yagi with a quad reflector. This antenna is 100% quad. And no, the Moonraker is NOT a quagi. A quagi has a quad driven and reflector with yagi directors. The Moonraker has a yagi driven element.
You are doing great!
A 1/1 current balun will work fine although not a perfect match to the feed line because a 1/2 wave dipole is NOT 50 ohms.
When you check SWR, you are checking the "match" of the FEEDLINE at the FEED POINT. You should check SWR AT THE FEEDPOINT, but that is not always...
You may not like this reply, but here goes:
Make them any spacing you want. The SteppIr 2-element beam had 2 full size elements on a 5 1/2' boom! Yep, 5.5'!! Did it work? Sure did!
My question would be, "How long is your boom?" If its 12', then space them 12'. If it is 11' 5 1/4" then...
I wonder how he is going to balance the pair of GS-35Bs. The problem with these tubes s they don't play well together. To be fair, on CB it probably doesn't matter since linearity is not at the top of the food chain.
I've glanced at this thread but haven't had the time to fully dive into it.
That Goldenrod antenna with the loops is just top loading. Because part of the loop is in the horizontal plane, would speak for the, "Responds to horizontally polarized signals unlike any conventional vertical whip"...
Yes. Remember, shit in, shit out. Clean up the radio first; don't overdrive the amp.
The I-10K is a great antenna, but it doesn't do miracles. Read my signature!
