I agree pdfs aren't optimal, but it was a matter of finding something in a hurry with an extension we could upload here and it's a text searchable pdf so just selecting all and cutting and pasting to the Arduino ide works fine.
I've done if/else statements (I've even been known to use...
I'm having trouble getting this to compile, though it's probably because I'm hungover from the wedding reception last night ;-) .
lowe = 0;
upp = 1000;
Throw up errors as their type isn't declared, they should be?:
int lowe = 0;
int upp = 1000;
and
potvar = potvar + spacing size;
Throws up...
I'll do a more Arduino newbie orientated write up soon. I'll also comment the code a bit soon too, but for now...if you're experienced with Arduinos you'll know what to do with the attached sketch! ;-)
I tried to put the code into the body of a message but it said the message was too big. I...
ta]ba02 - arduinos are addictive, aren't they?
I'll post a sketch tomorrow after I sober up from the reception tonight so you can play.
I'm thinking a SWR, Power meter, as well as an antenna analyzer would be doable?
I'm also headed towards my ham license, so a Hambdunion and maybe beacon...
Thanks guys! :) So far it has been a fun project!
It looks like an Arduino Mini Pro would be a good choice here and it's cheaper than an Uno and has the same amount of memory as well as enough i/o pins to accomplish what we want, however it needs a special serial cable to program and that...
Hi Guys,
I've been having fun experimenting with my Galaxy DX-979.
I wanted to increase the frequency coverage, but I wasn't happy with the usual switches that modify the settings fed to the PLL. Mostly because I don't care for the frequencies being out of order and having to refer to a...
Mine's up and running with insulators too! Very well too, though I just talked to one from the club who's using a rope dipole, has been for two and a half years, and he was sounding fine tonight too. It didn't start as a permanent thing, just a quickie after a storm...and he's just not got...
I was talking to the guy who does the Ham stuff for our Scout Troop tonight, he does a lot of portable stuff for the Scouts, 4H, Schools, etc. and he does that all the time. Not a permanent setup, but he said several in the club do do it permanently, He said when he got into it decades ago...
LOL! It's not just Dale, there are lots of reports on the net of people doing the same thing. <shrug> I don't think I'd be afraid to try it, but the insulators came with my center feed, so no reason not to use them.
Taking a break from painting so I took a quick look...check Dale Hunt's reply in this thread, it's just one of many giving about the same observations:

Again, I'm not near my machine (I'm on a smart phone while we're painting and remodeling my folks' place getting it ready to sell (they've passed on)).
I think the not using insulators was for insulated wire and anyone of a number of the plastic ropes out there these days...I'd think it would...
The stranded wire I used is coated 12 ga thhn building wire, I just have a buddy who's an Electrician and I'm tech support for his PCs so he spotted me some wire.
I bared the ends and twisted the wire back on it's self, I've read where you don't have to, but it seems it does affect tuning and I...
Got the dipole up today, next time I'll use solid core wire as I had to tune it a bit and unwinding stranded sucks.
I've read where using solid core and leaving a pigtail hanging down to trim is the move with a dipole, I think I'll try that next time.
Also found out I can turn the touch lamp...
Sideways - thanks for the input! I was using the internal speaker and I didn't have an external handy, though it was a good idea and I probably would've given that shot during troubleshooting if Rob hadn't made his suggestion.
Thanks guys! You made my night!
Steve
Bingo Rob! :)
I took a quick look at the pcb parts placement diagram...IC8 is the audio chip and it was on the rail 2/3 of the way back - right were the problem seemed to be.
The soldering on those leads looked poor to start with, Dairy Queen peaks on all of 'em, and the solder seemed funky...
Hi Guys,
Playing with my radio today and when I hooked my new SWR meter up I had no audio when I turned it on. I'm using it as a base so as I moved things around to check connections it suddenly came on. It seems to be working but just missing audio when it happens as the meter reflects...
Thanks guys, I just may give it a shot to see what it does.
In my youth I ran a dipole under the eaves of a single story house and it was still directional.
My thoughts were that it would work - it's basically an inverted V placed horizontally.
I'll report back after I experiment a bit.
Hi Guys,
I'd like to peak my radio up myself, looks pretty straight forward, but I need some non-conductive tools...is there a good inexpensive source for inductor tuning tools?
I just did this. On the motherboard connector the green wire is jumpered to any black wire to turn the unit on. It may fire up and then shut down as some units need to see a load to keep running. Most units also need a load to regulate properly. My unit would stay running but had about 11.5v...
Hi Guys,
I'm putting a dipole up for my shack, it'll be under the eaves of the house. I plan on orientating it east/west, however north/south may be nice occasionally. I'm considering two dipoles and a switch, but then it occurred to me that maybe I could put it near the corner of the house...
