    Ranger made radios RT1 invasion

The Texas ranger can handle a single 454 driver. If you over drive it with 16 volts, it can put out 460 Watts, but it is better to limit to 300 Watts. The idea is to keep input in the center of the meter in the amp, and let it swing from there. In my area, 250 is all I need, then I don't have to...

    Ranger made radios RT1 invasion

I did mean Texas Star, I must be watching too many reruns of Walker. MOSFETS are low in cost, bit the older boards with the 2290's lasted for years. I have some of the older ones, but switching from Mosfet's to 2290's, the Mosfet board has a three wire plug and a two wire plug, the 2290 board...

    Ranger made radios RT1 invasion

I just got an RCI 2995 DXCF about 5 months ago, peaked and tuned by Clay's Electronics. The radio was running fine, the everything went black, no smoke. I disconnected the amp board (RT1's) and everything came back on without the amp board. Instead of wasting time on fooling with the mosfets, I...

    RCI 2995dxfc amplifier

I just got a text message that the package will arrive on time tomorrow. Edit: It got here, works fine.

    RCI 2995dxfc amplifier

I saw that. sometimes a scan is missed, but I can call USPS and have it traced. Usually, it shows up real fast.

    RCI 2995dxfc amplifier

I decided not to buy the amp shown. I was told besides not having bias, you do need more voltage. It's almost a one use amp for competition. Glad you guys talked me out of it! I'm using a RM Italy KL 203-P right now, a Texas Star DX 350 should be here tomorrow. I'm told the RM Italy makes my...

    RCI 2995dxfc amplifier

Yeah, we mostly use AM here in the Mid-Florida area. I prefer to also use SSB, mods are not what I want to do. Right now, I disconnected the on board amp at the power supply, and am using an RM Italy KL 203-p. People say it sounds like the on board one, but it is still a MOSFET device,

    RCI 2995dxfc amplifier

Sounds workable. Figure the shipping to zip code 33635. I'm in Tampa.

    RCI 2995dxfc amplifier

How much are you asking for the DX 350? What output dies it have?

    RCI 2995dxfc amplifier

Well, there is a guy in Tampa that is running one of these, pictured. He gets them from a guy in Oklahoma. It's a custom unit that is a 1 x 4, puts out about 1Kw which is about average for the big bases here in the South Florida area. I'm thinking $600 for 1 Kw, new, is a good idea. I have a RF...

    RCI 2995dxfc amplifier

Also Barkett told me you can add a second final to these radios, and get 35 watts without hurting anything. the same circuit board is used in this manner in many bases and even mobiles. But that puts you back to the Excalibur and Galaxy DX days.

    RCI 2995dxfc amplifier

I like the idea of those 1Kw LDMOS amps, but can only find the basic assembly, without the LDMOS it self, and the case, switches, etc. But there are still 2290 "pill" types being made. I'm used to a separate unit anyway. I replaced the stock 25 amp power supply with a 45 amp switching power...

    RCI 2995dxfc amplifier

Well, I decided to get a separate amp. These MOSFET amp boards are not as reliable as the older ones. It's too much trouble for only 1-200 watts. I still like the radio, all of the features I want. I recommend the radio, but not the amp.

    RCI 2995dxfc amplifier

I called Barkett Electronics, who sell replacement parts for many brands. I was told the RT1 mosfets currently used come from Malaysia, and have a high failure rate. You can use the IRF 520 mosfets that are stronger, but do not amplify as much. You will have less wattage. My idea, so far, is to...

    RCI 2995DXCF

The MOSFETs don't last long. I replaced the entire board as an assembly, but it woks for a while, then the whole radio shuts off, until I disconnect the wires from power supply to amp board. The power supply is set to 13.8 volts and SWR is 1.1 : 1.

    RCI 2995dxfc amplifier

I have an RCI 2995dxcf. About a year old, voltage set at 13.8, peaked and tuned on a spectrum anylizer and oscilloscope. The SWR is about 1.1:1. I do not tweak my radio. Since getting it brand new, it has blown three amp boards, the mosfet type. I replaced them with boards from Barketts. Is...

    4 MOSFET's in my new 2995dxcf.

RCI 2995DX CF Hi - Low power switch

My radio works fine as is. I really don't need to change anything, so I won't.

RCI 2995DX CF Hi - Low power switch

I have gotten info before from Barkette's, and the tech was always right. I don't know Nomad, yet.
