    I think that GMRS is becoming popular because radios have become more plentiful and the FCC lowered the cost of the license. I always thought that $75 was silly.

    Yes, it adds a lot but the hardware is not there for most of it but hell it's worth a try. Edit: Downloaded and played around with it.

    Unless there is a reason to update the firmware I would use them as they are. The ONLY benefit I have seen so far is an improved AM Airband receive, the update improves the ACG response.

    Mine will not fully charge via usb-c, with the desk charger it does. I have never had an issue with any desk charge catching fire and I have dozens of them.
