I have a 2950 and like the rK56 mic best with it. tried power mics and astatic but for me the RK56 has the best sound for my voice. all mics work different for different people. my brother-in-law sounds weak and wimpy with a RK56 on my 2950 radio. so to me you will just have to see what works...

SSB will not be stable on freq with a dead key. make sure AM is stable with out any voice go to the radio. when you talk into the mic the freq will jump all over the place.. you said you are checking at the s0239 connector and in AM mode make sure you have the mic gain turned all the way off and...

one question about the out put freq with a counter. are you talking into the mic when you check the freq. if so stop doing it that way and turn the mic gain all the way down then dead key the radio and see if it stays on freq. I do not know the pc244 radio but does it have SSB and by chance are...

have you checked the speaker jack its self. it has a spring clip inside it to make contact to complete the circuit when you unplug the speaker. verify it is good. seen a few go bad over the years

Kaos wshy not recap the radio. it is old enough and you will just keep having caps go bad. I just bought a last generation madison and am going to recap it before I even try to use it. so far I just powered it on to see what it was doing. now just need to take the time to recap it.

see what the voltages you have on the tip 36c unit. the center leg should be around 5 volts and the 2 outer legs will be close to 12 to 13 volts. the leg to the front of the radio will a little lower than the rear leg. I am going to bed so we can look at what you have tomorrow.

the voltage on C looks a little low. should be closer to 5 or 6 volts. per the voltage chart I have.. is the one you have in there a PNP trans.

measure the voltage on each leg with the radio keyed and see what you are getting.

the original tr50 may be bad . just a guess.

I have never seen any one put a tip31 in the tr50 slot. a tip42c is normal for that location. the tip36c works fine for tr51 location
