The hard truth.......
Whats wrong with the radio? They were junk from the word go,hell Cobra will not even work on em anymore!
Who ever tried to tune it screwed it up because they did not have a clue how to tune this type of radio and it could cost you a small fortune to get it...
On a Dosy power meter. Peak will read the power that your radio produces as well as all of the harmonics ( big loud over modulated truck driver sounding radio;) ) it throws out as well. While on the avg setting it will only read power and not the harmonics hence the reduced amount of forward...
I know you can change R114 for a 10k ohm for a better audio response in a Cobra 2000 but what about a Uniden Madison? I looked inside but its not the same board layout as my Cobra 2000 so i was wondering if this kind of mod can be done to this radio and where is the location for it. Thanks!
I have found a nice Johnson Viking 1, also have a Hammarlund HQ-129-X shortwave receiver and i was wondering. Can the 129 be used as receiver with the Viking transmitter? Most of the people i know that use an old transmitter like this also use a CB radio as the receiver and i would rather not go...
Damn i did not know they made a tube that big!!
One thing about it. With a 150Kw you would never need to go to the hospital for kemo if you had cancer.......what am i saying. With that much power you would never need a night light to go outside in the dark...YOU WOULD GLOW!!
AM power.
6 watt key 11 watts peak. 200 watt scale shows 11 watts peak. 75% modulation.
RMS 6 watt key, swings back to 5 watts. To much key?
SSB power.
No key of course pegs out meter on 20 watt scale.
200 watt scale. 22 watts peak. Just over 100% modulation.
I mean i understand completely with both of you, i dont want to screw up the SSB because that's mostly were i stay any more, i'm over all of the CB bullshat! It's just that the radio will not come close to 100% modulation on AM even after turning up the VR adjustment for modulation to the max...
Some one told me that there are two limiters, one for AM one for SSB. The radio is a new Cobra 148 GTL and although SSB performance is fine, AM leaves a lot to be desired.....even with a power mike! I know it's been asked a thousand times but.....what is the AM only ( if there is one )...
I have something i would like to say if you all would indulge me for a second.
It seems ridiculous to me that the FCC would get there panties in a bunch over something this meaningless while Joe Blows cb shop is selling these things left and right. Not to mention those 1000+++ watt splatter...
