Its my understanding the gain of a 1/2 dipole typically increases in a horizontal configuration, not vertical. Something to do with capacitance between antenna and the dirt and it acts as a reflector and I don't think it's even that much unless your talking about a 3/4 wave dipole.
In Rocky Mount don't make it out of copper. Or if you do, paint it green. Vertical dipoles kind of suck, only 2.15dB of gain of that theoretical antenna that radiates evenly in all directions, up down left right, etc. There is even a unit of measurement based on the gain of the dipole, dBd...
It's an Frankenstein'd Motorola HT-1250LS made from a low band HT-750 (16ch non display) and an HT-1250 front housing, reprogrammed as an HT-1250 with 255 channels, and re-tuned 3Mhz lower than its specified bandsplit of 29.7-36Mhz. Amazingly it still puts out 6 watts around 27Mhz with decent...
Did Radio Shack ever sell a removable bnc version of that antenna? I tried putting a BNC connector on one from a junk radio with a fiberglass rod but the VSWR was garbage when I tested it. I suspect those built in antennas were more like part of the antenna, the other part being you touching...
I have the "27Mhz" version of the Abbree, or maybe a counterfeit since I don't see it for sale on their website only Amazon. I have mixed feelings about the things. The plastic crease where it folds will buckle and flop just from sitting in storage, but it can easily be restored with a quick...
Patch it and sell it. I don't think Tram has much love for 11m or lowband VHF, or base antennas in general ( i seldom see tram up on the towers ) and Lil Will beats their CB-27 by a longshot, though their NMO mounts are solid.
Yeah I will admit they are ok if you don't take them in the woods and just want to recreationally ragchew on a repeater. And they are good for projects. It's a $30 radio, it's not a deal, that's exactly what it's worth. I still think even China has better options. I loved my FDC-150 and it...
I have not owned a Anytone yet but I have zero complains with my Lincoln II+ v3 set up as a base station. SSB is stable, modulation is decent and audio quality is clear in all modes. The Anytone probably has the same but the President comes out the box with all the cool FM stuff, repeater...
The Baofeng is neither blessed or kosher, and unworthy of transmission or reception outside of the ham or weather band. We tried to use these up on the towers years ago, the rx is easily overloaded by anything, the audio output is lame, the crash like a shitty old PC, and they FAIL. Most of...
Anytone Smart. Probably this one https://manuals.plus/anytone/smt02-smart-10-meter-ham-radio-manual . Pretty much useless for ham as it lacks repeater offset or CTCSS/DCS but it should have 5khz tuning. It should have a diode near where the power goes into the board to save the board in the...
get a helper, climb up and tie 2 or 3 ropes near the top, unbolt from house, preferably while standing on an extension ladder, tie off the ropes to something, dig up the foundation and use the ropes to walk it down. each section weighs about 40 lbs assuming its standard 10' Rohn 25 so its not...
CB but, unless you got FM with toned squelch by running some exotic imported rig, "10 meter radio" or converted low band gear, there is a good chance the other operator will turn his shit off after 15 minutes. Especially if you talking to a wife/daughter or girlfriend
I heard somewhere they were going to allow FM in addition to AM and SSB. This true? Anybody coming out with an FCC radio to do FM? AM audio when done right to me sounds better than AM but I dont hear it done right often and AM/SSB are king for DX. But with FM you can have toned squelch...
It's been 11 years but I found another cool trick. Make it 120 channels, go down to channel 40L, hold the down button, keep holding and it will soon skip 10 channels at a time. Keep holding it down, and suddenly it shows 80 channels high and low. Use your video game skills to stop it on...
I would like to swap out my truck's FM radio antenna for an NMO mount and some coax. What would I need to split the FM broadcast band to go to my in dash radio? I know such exist, I have seen it on a boat for the VHF marine band, but I want UHF, or both VHF and UHF. Any ideas?
