I don't think so. I'm not a coax/antenna genius, but from what I've read... I don't think so. If you make or purchase a CMC be sure it's closest to the antenna vs. just before it goes in the house (weird stuff happens in that placement). :unsure:
My memory may be fuzzy, but I seem to remember getting a Sears am/ssb mobile w/o the mic, which had one of those 5-pin "half moon" connectors like the Rat Shack radios did. So I borrowed one of my RS mics and as I recall, it worked w/o changing anything. There's probably more info on Rat Shack...
I do the same. When 38 becomes so congested that it's a wall of voices, I usually go up to 39/40 or down to 36/37. I'll then check the even channels (27.390, 27.400, etc.) Otherwise it's go above 40, because the local SSBers can't communicate between each other in the same town, so they move to...
Yep,
1. Some of it is nostalgia. I've bought several this year just for that.
2. Many have that "COOL" look to them as well. Something that most new radios don't have.
3. The older ones are fairly easy to modify/repair.
4. Yellow table gear makes potential sellers think they have a gold mine...
I went to 3 this year, here in Texas (had to miss the Fall Belton 'Fest last weekend though), but prices by sellers were fair, I sold about 1/2 of what I brought to each one, and I'm looking forward to the one just down the road from me next March on the 4th!
The stock mics (electret) do sound better. Even when I switched to Dynamic on my McKinley, the Dynamic mic still sounded bad, but I hate the way the new mics feel when holding them. I'm thinking of buying a kit off eBay to pull the Dynamic out and put an electret in, for the way it feels, and...
