Different Look At 102" Whip Discussion

So much great info from these old threads. Agree. My whip by itself is too short. For the center of 11 meter anyway. Adding a 4 inch heavy duty barrel spring and a 2 inch Tram quick disconnect puts it in great shape from channel 1 to 40 on 11 meters. Even mounted just 7 inches behind the pickup...

    Best shortest mobile CB antenna??

It's a better investment is your antenna and coax than the radio itself, imo. A $500.00 dollar radio hooked to a crappy antenna will, well, sound crappy. Be lucky to talk 3 miles. If that. That same radio hooked to a very good/great antenna using good to great coax will do a MUCH better job...

    President Lincoln ll

I may have the answer already. Seems the majority of people here like/use the Anytones more than the Lincoln's. I may have to look into those also.

    President Lincoln ll

Hey all. Can the new President Lincoln ll be modified to work on 11 meters as well as 10 and 12 meters? And, does anyone on here have/use one and if so, what are your thoughts on the radio? How does it perform on the different bands? Does it drift on SSB? Thanks in advance for any info.

    Siro ?????

These older threads are something! "Golden Shovel Time!" Besides a 102 inch SS Whip, the Sirio Performer 5000 and 4000 are the best mobile cb antenna's you can buy/use. imho.

Sirio 5000 mobile antenna wow !!

Old threads why, just gotta love em'! Btw, my Sirio Performer 5000 installed in the exact same place as a Wilson 1000 put a full S unit better signal to a guy on a base 9 miles away and, I received him almost a full S unit as well with the Sirio 5000. We compared them both on my truck. I love...

    Effect of Ice on SWR

Agree. ESPECIALLY the myth, "You need 18 ft of coax". That's BS. I don't care who ya are.

    Wilson antenna advice

Precisely! Next to a 102 SS Whip, the Sirio Performer 5000 is the best antenna you can use, imho.

    Mobil install..Coax length??

Another older thread. "Golden shovel time!" Anyway, the "18 ft coax myth", is JUST THAT! A MYTH, PERIOD! And besides, if anyone is looking for a half wave of coax cable, they DIFFER depending on the VP. (Velocity Factor). None are the same UNLESS, they have the same velocity factor. Period...

Looking at the Sirio lineup for mobile use...

"I would recommend some times microwave lmr240uf. Great stuff." Hey, so would I. LMR-240 is my go to for my mobile install(s).

Your guys favorite fiberglass antenna choices

Wilson Silver load and Skipshooter. Both great antennas. I have a 4.5 ft and 7 ft Skipshooter and a 4 ft and 5 ft Silver Load Wilson. All are great, imo.

    11 meter is very quiet?

I talked to California on my way to Hardy's and back. The "Nose Picker." I've heard him pretty often.

    The Tram 3500 Magnet mount

I had one for nearly 3 yrs and somehow, water got in it finally. It was a GREAT antenna. And, just a bit over half the price of a Wilson. If I ever bought another one, I'd change the coax to LMR-240 and seal that dude immediately before installing. (Fyi, I change all my mobile mounts and mag...

    Skip Shooter Antenna

These old threads are GREAT! Especially, if you're like me and first time reading them. I too have a 4.5 ft skipshooter I use with a spring and 3 mag mount on top dead center of my 2002 extended cab pickup and it is a great antenna. Tuned SWR to 1.1 and 1.2 from 1 to 40. Great local talker and...

    Browning BR-28 & BR-78

Another old thread but, here goes. I have the Browning BR-28 High-Performance Broad Band 63- Inch CB Antenna ROUND coil and for what it is, it's an excellent antenna. Talks and hears great and very low SWR. I'll check it out better once I get my Rig Expert.

    SWR Readings are bugging me

Speaking of SWR Readings, I'm about to bite the bullet and order a Rig Expert AA-35 Zoom analyzer. My wife just got a nice raise so, I think I can swing it now without too much worry. Btw, found an interesting article on "Why 50 ohms?" Thought you all might enjoy the reading...

What to do about a weathered fiberglass base antenna?

Buy a new one? You can still find cheap ones.

    Best shortest mobile CB antenna??

Lol! For sure. I tried a rubber ducky when I first got back into radio. What a joke haha. Although, dead center on top of my old extended cab pickup I did get a 1.3 to 1.4 swr across the 11 meter band. It just wouldn't transmit or receive that far. Using my old stock Uniden PC 76XL.

    The myth of coax length.

I'm sure to get hammered but, I cut all of my coax in 1/4 wave. Or, in multiples of it depending what I need. Never had a problem.

    Best shortest mobile CB antenna??

Old post yep. Love em'! How about a Larsen, 49 inch whip?
