Another older post but, I hope the MFJ-845 is a good meter because I just ordered one. Can anyone let me know if they have used one and, are they a good meter?
Thanks in advance.
Oh boy. Me and these old post's.
I think CB and Ham, etc...radio is respectable. Very.
It's a wonderful hobby that I still enjoy to this day.
I wish more folks would pick up the hobby. And, be decent about it. Instead of all the cussing, political, nasty talk of any kind. Would just love to see...
27.205 x 18, (18 being half a 11 meter wave length, approx) = 489.69
489.69 x .84, (Velocity Factor), = 411.3396
411.3396 divided by 27.205 = 15.12
My calculations may be wrong but 15.12 feet is a half wave of Times Microwave LMR-400UF considering the velocity factor is .84
That's how I...
I do realize this is an old thread but, I highly recommend Stu at DX Radio Shop in Clyde New York. https://dxradioshopny.com
He aligned my Galaxy DX 94HP and set the low dead key to 2 watts and the high dead key to 10 watts and it forward modulates almost 120 watts when you turn the power up...
Another older thread but, I get on the superbowl occasionally and holler, "Brown beans and cornbread, and a big ole' slab of onion!"
I do that 7 or 8 times over about 5 to 8 minutes and move on. Don't know if they ever hear me and, I don't really care.
I have 2 of those older Uniden Pro 520XL's, 1 made in Malaysia and 1 made in the Philippines. Is one or the other of the 2 better than the other, (More reliable, better parts, better assembly, better quality control, etc...), than the other? I'm just curious if anyone here may know.
I'm weird I guess but, I always cut my coax in 1/2 wave lengths and have great results. Never had a problem. Even my jumpers are 1/2 wave. All are cut according to their specific velocity factor at 27.185, channel 19. But, I know many of you use whatever length of coax is needed and never have...
Ok I will! I didn't punch a hole. I took an old 5 inch tram nmo mag mount I have and jerked that cheap tram rg58 out of it. Replaced it with some of DX Engineering's supposedly "low loss", RG8X, 162 inches of it, and it works fantastic! Mounted dead center on top of my pickup truck cab. After...
It's the NMO 27B. 11 meter. Never owned one so thought i'd give it a try. Especially after reading this.

Although I know this is just the CB Band. I may get laughed at for talking CB. haha.
I just installed a
Larsen Antenna 27-30 MHz
on my pickup truck top center cab and after making a few small cuts to the stinger, got it dialed right in.
Very good swr.
Seems to be working great for an antenna only 46 or so inches tall. I'm pretty happy with it.
My Dad's first base station in the late 60's or early 70's was a Gemtronics. It picked up bleedover so bad he sold it and bought a Pearce Simpson. The Pearce Simpson was a great base and sounded and talked great. His big old ground plane I believe was a Super Slammer? Maybe? I could be wrong but...
I have an old Philippine made Uniden 76XL and it works great. Are they worth aligning and "Peaking and Tuning", even by someone who knows what they're doing or, is it still just an old radio that really won't perform that much better after having it done.
