With the scope on pin7 of the 5082P and pin7 of the 2081AP, they connect, I get this image. It's a snapshot, best I can do. But it does appear to have signal unless I'm mistaken. No voltage or freq showing on pin7 though.
I found the 5082P datasheet. Only it's in Japanese I believe. Also this diagram.
Looks like IC5 (TC5081P) comes in to play as well. I've just been tracing back on the schematic to anything tied to the blown capacitor I had (C103).
Working on an old school 2950, orange face. I found a shorted C103, may have been inserted with the wrong polarization. I replaced that cap, and going through a PLL align, I found I can't get past the first step which is looking for the 10.240 at L61. I think L4 (IFT12251) might be the culprit...
Galaxy service is one of the best. If John is still there you should contact Galaxy and see what say. He knows these radios in and out.
This is the number I have : 1-760-480-8800
Sounds like the mic element is bad. I have several with the same condition. Hook a oscilloscope across the element connections and see if you have a signal when you talk into it, or even scratch across the front of the mic.
I suppose you could use any retractable antenna with one of these.

That's what I did to mine also, and the information I have on that issue also adds a capacitor. I don't remember where I found that but it was in my 148GTL notes.
"Cut trace on PC board between Pin 1 of IC6 and pin 2 of IC4 ( MB3756 ). Next, install a .1uf mylar capacitor at C136 and a jumper...
That bulletin in CB135 was the same as 1208 technical bulletin as Cobra put out. They also revised that to 1208a.
I don't know how they would play out to the other 1st gen 858's.

Hard to tell without removing the meter cover. I don't think he offered the lighted version until late in the production. I know the original lamps went out pretty fast, but then it's on 8 - 12 hours a day
They are fuse lamp type bulbs for the meters, at least mine were. I replaced them both as they both died. I used 2 LEDs per meter for replacements. They don't give me the full light across the meter face, but as they say, good enough for govt work.
edit: The bulbs were actually axial lead...
There are a few around, local Mom and Pops usually have positive attitude towards their customers...those that survived the lock downs.

I generally use an oscilloscope probe with my Counter. Probe Master makes nice ones, in the USA, and after buying several chineseiam brands, I have found they are worth the added cost.
