I had to read it a couple times to sift through the embellishments, but it is an interesting read.. the writer presents some interesting concepts, and it's certainly true that transmission lines are a science unto themselves. I would agree that it should be a sticky.. I just wish it was a little...
Based on a couple posts I made in several different threads, it occurred to me (after a suggestion from Moleculo) that this site could use a thread dedicated to solid-state amplifiers and how to keep their output clean. Maintaining clean output from a station is a foremost obligation of any...
All my HTs spend most of their time sitting in their chargers. It shouldn't cause any problems at all. With most LiIon batteries it's good to completely discharge and recharge them from time to time though, so once in awhile leave it on until the battery dies.
If you're good with a soldering iron you could try fixing it yourself by replacing all the capacitors on the band board. There's a strong likelihood that one or more of them are blown.. replacements can usually be found on ebay. From what I can see in the only pics of the interior of the fl-110...
I think that's probably right.. he designed or had a hand in designing a bunch of their stuff. The conversation I was referring to happened awhile back when I was having issues with a different filter.. he's a smart dude, it's not that he's overlooking anything really, he likely knows more than...
Lol.. that's for sure. Straight up or not, I'd sure never work for 'em. I like working for people that have at least a little respect for the employees that help make their world go 'round. If you're gonna tell me straight up that the job is crap, I'm gonna tell you straight up to give it to...
Oh man I'm gonna contact that person right away.. with such a glamorous rundown, simply oozing raw prestige, a dream job like that won't be around long.
I'd agree with that logic.. the frequencies involved in PWMing a couple LED chips are not RF, so it's unlikely that they are radiating, but I've seen interference be caused by AF sources before. I think you're right though.. try Mack's suggestion and let us know how it goes.
IDK if that would work since the PWM signal is being generated inside the LED device itself. Intercepting any AC on the device's power leads shouldn't impact the internal PWM signal, and if the interference is being radiated from the LED device's PWM circuit directly then conditioning the power...
Seems to me that the solution would depend on finding which specific circuit inside the radio is picking up the interference. Those little color-changing LEDs work by way of PWM, which means they are fed a rapidly oscillating signal, the duty cycle of which determines the brightness of each LED...
Tnx Moleculo.. I've been planning on starting a thread about filters and other methods of keeping an amplifier's output clean with low distortion, since all the data I've posted on the topic is in threads that aren't dedicated to that subject. As I'm sure is obvious from some of my posts, I've...
I don't think you're too far off at all myself, especially since I just took a crash course in filter design due to a couple projects I've been working on. During a discussion i had with W8JI awhile back he stated his aversion to the use of filters with more than 5 poles, which means that the...
If the trc-485 is the same as the htx-10, the service manual can be found here: http://www.repeater-builder.com/radio-shack/htx-10/htx-10-service-manual.pdf
Very nice writeup though, it's good to have the meat of the tune-up procedure right here in one spot.
Hmm.. never even heard of that before. Seems like a new and probably relatively untapped market, unlike medical lasers where there are many different competitors. Food for thought there for sure...
I just wanted to share a recent experience and a major improvement I discovered while building this set of low-pass filters from CCI. In the base configuration (L-input 5-pole) the input impedance varied a good amount over the bands that the filter will be used on, resulting in a highly variable...
yeah, you have to use a soldering iron to melt the solder on pad 3. The pad is divided into 2 halves as you can see from the other two pads in the pics, so once you melt the solder you should see that. In my experience with my ft-2900r (same process) just melting the solder is usually enough to...
I also have an SBB-5 from Comet.. love it! Great performance, low SWR, strong and solid construction. My favorite thing about the SBB-5 as opposed to many other dual-band mobile antennas is it's subtlety. It's painted flat black from top to bottom, and it's shaped like an oversized (38") old...
