Greetings Rob!
I use 600 Ohm ladder line. It is used on a 40m horizontal delta loop. The ladder line runs down to a DX Engineering 4:1 current balun that is mounted on the outside of the basement wall with about 12 ft. of RG8 to a tuner to keep the rig happy with a 50 Ohm load. Advantages-low...
I'm going to be mobile during Field Day, traveling south from VA to SC, first leg of my journey and then from SC to FL second leg of the journey the next day. I'm curious as to what my exchange with stations should be. Do I use the state I'm currently traveling through as a designator or do I...
I really enjoy my TS-2000, but not having had another rig like the 746 series I have nothing to really make a comparison in order to post a worthwhile review. My prior HF rigs were a TS430S and a TS50S. I don't have a HT (yet) to try the sky command with. I did however have a QSO awhile back...
Be bold and get the General Class book as well and do a Two-fer. It really isn't that difficult if you put your mind and some effort into it. Take the practice tests online and once you can consistently score in the upper 80's and 90's you should be good to go.
Be sure and let us know how...
There are tests that you can access on line(at QRZ and Eham),to name a few that are excellent for checking how well you understand the material. The book contains the info you need for understanding the material and is also a good reference for later as well.
Hope this helps!

Hey Scott!
I watched it go over as well. I had just let my dog out and was standing on the back patio and saw it coming into view. At first I thought, man that is a really bright sat and it is really moving. I then remembered the plot for the shuttle/station was due for a pass over from a...
Miss hearing Ya on the band Jim. Maybe things will pickup a little this summer with some Sporadic E propagation in addition to some sunspot activity as well.

HD,
Between the AS and the M2 which do you think is the better of the two for handling large wind load arrays? I have looked at the M2's but was unaware that AS made a rotor that would handle large wind load arrays. Not ever having had a beam I'm really a novice at what is available.

Kewl! I thought I was doing good making a couple of contacts into VK land from my mobile. One on 40m and another on 20m. Impressive contact. The propagation god has blessed you.:thumbup1:

CK,
You mention early on in your post about having a system in place that will last a while and at the same time not wanting to climb. "At this stage in my life I want to make any major tower and antenna purchases something that will last pretty much the rest of my days or at least until I am...
Good Luck on your tests!
If you pass both then you'll also be in the market for an HF rig. So start shopping and stimulate the economy.:lol:
