    Tower stand off mount

I'd like to use a stand off mount on the side of my tower to install a small 2 meter/70 cm vertical antenna. Is there any minimum distance the mount should stand off from the tower to avoid interference and messing up the SWR too much? Is 3 feet enough or does it have to be more? Thanks

    Antenna height

Interesting article. If I understand it correctly, the focus of the article is about DX (skip). Do the conclusions hold true for non-skip (local) conditions? My original question is specifically about local effects of antenna height.

    Antenna height

Thanks for the plots. Unfortunately I don't know how to read them. I thought these showed the radiation pattern, not the expected distance. I believe the point of the article I found was that by raising the antenna height the horizon becomes increasingly farther away, and with a increased...

    Antenna height

I came across a printed article from the late 60's or early 70's that covered this topic. The article indicated that assuming flat ground (I guess think Kansas), that you need to TRIPLE your antenna height like from 20 feet to 60 feet to get almost DOUBLE the range (1.8x) to be exact. So...

    Most Popular Freeband Frequencies

I use to spend a lot of time on the frequencies above 405 back in the 80's. But now days with much less people on CB, there isn't the need to go up there anymore. Heck around here, people are only ever on LSB. All the USB's are unused.

    Antenna height

Is anyone aware of any studies on effect of antenna height on local (<200 miles) receive and transmit? For example, station A has an antenna 30 ft up. He receives station B, 40 miles away with 4 s-units. If station A raises his antenna to 40 ft, would there be any change in how well he...

    11 meter is very quiet?

The least expensive route is to get a 100 watt amplifier to go with your SSB base. However if you want to 'stay legal' and do it on 12 watts, I think you'll be pretty disappointed running only a vertical (antron99) type antenna. I'd recommend a 4 element directional antenna. Even then its a...

best ever base vertical survey ??

I was wondering what everyone thought of the Starduster? Back in the 80's I use to have a 1/2 wave GP from Radio Shack. A station across town ran a StarDuster and always seemed to be able to reach stations I couldn't. Local it seemed it was a bit better than me, but for Skip it was much...

    FURTHEST LOCAL NON-DX CONTACT?

I was not able to reach them, but about a week ago, I heard my two longest ever, non-skip stations. One was in Connecticut (about 150 miles) and the other was in a mobile running 1000w crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel about (200 miles). At first I thought the mobile was skip, but 1...

    11 meter is very quiet?

I remember days back in the early 80's during the summer we'd have periods of time with no 'english' speaking skip, but we'd still be able to hear Mexico and South America. (What ever happend to station Tequila 5 in Acapulco??) However the last 2 weeks have been really dead here in PA, with...

    Polarization question

Take your basic 4 element yagi. It can be mounted Vertical or Horizontal for the desired polarization. What do you get if antenna is mounted at a 45 degree angle, splitting the difference between vertical and horizontal?

    Base Gizmotchy SWR Tuning

Yes, the antenna is close to the ground. Its just on a 10 mast pole stuck in the ground now. Wanted to try to get it tuned before raising the tower up. Don't have an analyzer but I have used the meter before. No reason to doubt its readings.

    Base Gizmotchy SWR Tuning

Does anyone have suggestions on how to tune the SWR on a Gizmotchy? I've got a very nice 1.3:1 on CH1 but it jumps up to around 2.1:1 on CH 40. Since I spend all my time on 36 to 40+, I'd rather have the low point tuned to CH40 not to CH1. I've jacked around with the Gamma length a bit, and...

New Ranger RCI-69VHP SSB coming soon

I'm not interested in any radio with a band selector and a 40 channel knob. If they are making a 10/12 meter radio, then make it the way the hams would want to use it. This thing doesn't look much better than my JCPENNEY 6247 40 CH SSB that I got in about 1980. Surely they can give me...

    Jogunn V-series

I am aware that Jogunn publishes garbage for the gain and performance numbers. However I am interested in how their V Series antenna works. What do they mean when they say this antenna is dual polarity or circular polarity? Can it really talk to someone is transmitting horizontal and someone...

Jo Gunn Smoking 2 or Gizmoychy 3 element Which?

Are you a current owner of a Gizmotchy, or you are just trying to decide between these two?

    Antenna Mast Length

I'm thinking of putting up a 3 element beam on a Rohn 25 type tower. What is the rule of thumb for how much of the mast pole should stick out of the top of the tower? Should it be kept as short as possible, or is there any problem with having the pole 10ft+ above the top of the tower? I...

    Tower Install

you guys are putting a damper on my plan to put 2 bags of sackcrete in a small hole and call it a day. Isn't the house mount going to take 90% of the wind force, and very little be transferred to the ground?
