I understand you are partial to the 991a. I haven't owned or used either rig. Just like Ford and Chevrolet, you will find folks that love one and hate the other. My main rig is an Anan 7000. It has it's quirks but I like it. Some Flex users will tell you it's a piece of junk.
Amps with more than 12 volts on the keying circuit will damage alot of rigs. You also have to measure the current drawn by the realy and read the owners manual to see what the rig can take.
I don't own a 7300 but I know people that do. Some use them with an amplifier daily. Do you own one and...
I agree 100%. They should have got it right. However, the more time you spend refining the product the more money you have tied up in R&D. You have to make a choice. Either buy the cheap rig and deal with it's shortcomings or spend the money on a top of the line unit.
I didn't know about the ptt timing issue. That's easy enough to overcome with a sequencer or a 2 stage ptt switch.
CBers have been "upgrading" ham amps for years with rf keying circuits. Add a ssb delay and you get a guaranteed hot switch. It's not a good thing.
Is that really an issue with...
Im a big believer in a brick wall peak limiter in the audio chain for this stuff. I use an Aphex Dominator 2 720 as a modulation limiter. If you inject audio anywhere that bypasses the radio's mod limiter you need a peak limiter.
If you don't use one you'll get the occasional overshoot that...
For most people the receiver is good enough. I agree that the 7300 is a cheap entry level rig but a fine one at that. A good bang for the buck bit it ain't a Flex or Anan.
If you want to have the best receiver I would take a look at Sherwood Engineering and see how they stack up. Both rigs are...
The mauldulator connects to the rig with 2 wires. A ground and the other connects to the finals. Easy install. Then the adjustments on the mauldulator board control the carrier power, audio level and asymmetry. The asymod is the same thing. They are all single voltage now. They used to require 3...
A mauldulator or asymod is much better than the direct injection method with these rigs.
If you want a project figure out the modulation impedance of the final and driver. Let's say 1 amp at 13.6 volts.
13.6 ÷ 1 = 13.6 ohms
I don't know what you have for audio gear but say the output of the...
I searched for 2sc2879 on the rfparts website and found nothing. Maybe he is charging that much for them. That's ridiculous for a 100 watt device but some folks are dumb enough to pay it.
The whole Texas Star line up is modular. A dx 500 is actually 2 DX tree fiddys. A sweet sixteen is 4 dx tree fiddys. Since this unit has 2290s im assuming it's 8 dx two fiddys.
That many transistors in parallel was ok when they were 14 bucks a piece. Kind of like monster sweep tube amps when...
I'm not sure but I think that's just to connect the mic to a balanced input. Without a transformer or some kind of buffer you still have a high impedance microphone. Maybe what they considered low impedance back in the day is much different today. The mic I use is 150 ohms.
The unamplified d104 will probably sound bad with a modern rig with 600 ohm impedance. They sound very good when working into a high impedance. The amp board was the solution to mate a high z element to a low Z load. You can find some audio clips of K4KYV on YouTube. The man knows how to use a d104.
I think it could do much better with the modified Heising set up. As it is the final and driver draw DC current through the mod transformer. Get rid of the DC on the transformer and it only has to deal with the audio. B+ would be supplied through a reactor (choke). I think that little...
The wd40 is holding up well. I'm not going to paint it until it's done. Then I can rip it all apart and paint. The ps is mostly done. Just need to finish the rf deck and metering. Garage built CB junk with a different tank coil.
