A lawn mower with a Ferrari V10 would be ridiculous all right. Everyone knows the Lamborghini V10 is the one you want in your riding lawnmower, they did start out building tractors so they have more relevant experience after all.;)
They build to a price point. There are plenty of other companies making the same stuff they do with better quality, you just have to be willing to pay for it.
Not a ham here so I don't have a horse in this race, just observations from an outsider looking in. Take this with a grain of salt.
I think it would be good for the hobby to let Tech class operators get a taste of more of the bands but those numbers look way to high to me, it does seem like...
I think this is one of those areas where as good as possible should be replaced by as good as practical, seems like you could very easily wind up chasing your own tail if you really dive into this subject.
Sometimes this can be the way to run, without a mic. Some of the most aggravating BS can also be the most entertaining comedy when you aren't involved in it yourself. It does suck when you have to be careful who's in the car with you when you turn on the radio though.
I always felt there...
No disrespect to Bob Heil intended here. What irks me is the "if you don't do as I prefer you do it wrong" attitude that can be a little too prevalent in the radio hobby, and quoting experts doesn't make it go down any better.

Is this what I want or what some other person believes I should want?
When Bob Heil buys a radio and gives it to me I'll take into consideration what he thinks I should want, as long as I'm paying for my equipment I'll make that decision myself.
A little bit of lows might not get out better in...
Note that I have heard that there are people making counterfeit u6qw stuff, don't know the details but it's something to look into.
Also are the guys running separate eq's into those 1200's using u6qw/w2hiy stuff or actual studio gear? I've heard the onboard settings can make those radios sound...
To the best of my knowledge the SWR doesn't change, only the reading on the meter is changing. Before taking an SWR reading you need to calibrate the meter to the power being put into the antenna, when you apply voice modulation the power output isn't steady and the reading changes due to the...
Try that in Brooklyn now and you'll be someones hood ornament.
I was always to clumsy for stuff like skating, started buying bikes a bit later in life.
Bird meters measure average power not peak, some believe that for AM use average is the number that matters. Of course a Bird meter can have a peak kit installed but then it doesn't really read bird watts anymore.
