Hi,
I looked at the refurbs and I just bought a new 980 from Amazon for $114!
They were $108, but seem to go up and down a little on price!
I think the refurbs were $88 or so and wasn't enough difference to matter to me!
I don't want problems with the radio got other things to worry...
Hi,
Thanks Gentlemen!
I will do the least I can and might even just put in the radio stock and try that awhile!
Bell's CB is WAY down south from me so dropping by his shop won't happen.
'
I think I can do what I need when I decide to, and will watch the vids!
222, I looked at your mic...
Hi,
Thanks Robb!
I'm hoping to go in and out without her knowing she has been assaulted!!!
222, I'll watch the vids, am I right about how to test with meter and dummy load.
They never show that as I guess you are already suppose to know or something!!!
Hi,
Thanks Gentlemen!
Yea, no doubt I'm using the wrong terminology! Ha!
What about the modulation?
Leave it alone or turn it up?
If all I have to do is the RT 206 dead key and get out I should be ok!!!
I guess to find out what you did I have my Power/SWR meter hooked to a dummy load...
Hi,
Ok, I'll ask this straight up,(I guess it is no secret?)
Can some one give me the number on the board on the 980, for the AM Bias, that I need to turn down to 1.5.
And the number for the modulation pot that I need to turn up?
I think that is minimal that I need to do so the radio...
Hi,
Thanks!!!
Makes me feel a little better!
I hate dropping the ball on these things but guess I was led astray by my desire to get the best price I can!!!
I'm going to look at these vids and see if I can figure out what is what by the numbers on the board .
I've never done this...
Hi,
Thanks Gentlemen!
I have everything on order so hope to get it set up soon!
I'm running 4 guage wire and using fuses inline, trying to do it right!
I might just put the amp in my drawer and just run the CB for now.
I work in Charleston, but live in Fl so I know Bell's is down...
Hi,
Thanks 222!
I screwed the pooch I guess, missed your post by about 10 minites!
I ordered the 203 ($53) instead of the 203P (I didn't know there was two, 203"s!!!!)
What is the difference?
I'll look on u tube and see if I can find a vid on setting the 980 up to take the amp?
I...
Hi,
Stopped by a stereo shop and asked about 4 guage wire.
I figured what I was going to hear and I was right!
$3 a foot! Ha!
I said thanks and came and got on the Internet and ordered what I need for my power and ground hook up.
I guess I'm going to get the Italian magnet mount...
Hi,
Thanks, 222!
What size fuse are you running there close to the battery?
I'm going to use #4 wire I know a little overkill but like that better!
I want this to be a one time job!
Thanks for the info!!!
Hi,
Yea, the more I read the more I like it!
222, in another thread was talking about final issues and a heat sink was mentioned?
I actually have some SSB exposure as I was a Chief Mate in the Merchant Marines for about 20 years!
I switched departments, got my Engineer's License so not...
Hi,
Well....I could buy it for $108 and use it stock to get used to it some.
Then pull it have the amp (KL203) an then send it to a good Tech to put the amp on and maybe a few other things.
This would break the $$$ expenditure down some!
I saw the vid on it a Bell's CB and he said the...
Hi,
Well I just checked out Amazon (they know me!)
And they have it for $108!
Man, they must be selling these like hotcakes!!!
How hard is it to add the amp?
I guess you have to also go in and drop the amps!
I think I'm getting turned to the Dark Side!
Hi,
Thanks Gentlemen!!!
A LOT of good info there!
Robb, I would be interested where you can get that price at?
It is lower than what I have seen!
Yes the E-Bay route for a Grant LX is full of chance and danger!
I have had my ears clipped back before on some 70's stereo equipment...
Hi,
Well I just got this SWR Meter!
Like I said I like RETRO!
The seller says it's in excellent condition and works?
Looks like a good one, more than I wanted to pay, but it looks like even "junk" is $30!
Go figure!
Hi,
Thanks 338!
I appreciate you answering my noob questions!
I admit I like the older type radios, up to the point of having a Grant "recapped" and gone through by a good Tech!
There are a couple of Grants that are supposedly "peaked and tuned" on E-bay but I'm hesitant to roll the...
