Uniden PC 244 - Alignment Help

I accepted that it was probably beyond my skill level, haha. The radio(s) are on a shelf, waiting for the time that I send one off to be gone through and polished up. The friend that gave them to me passed away a few years ago, so I definitely don't want to be mucking them up.

Dusting off a Sweet Sixteen, everything look ok?

In the process of ordering parts to rehab the Sweet Sixteen. Went through the boards and compared to the layout diagram and schematic, found a few missing parts. C3 is listed as a 120pF cap, it looks like a Mica, but could be a film? Any particular voltage rating? Reason for replacing...

    Beater radio boost....

RM Italy makes the AD203 stinger board which is made for exactly what you're trying to do. Might take a look at that and see how different what you have is, and adjust accordingly.

    Tuning 102" Whip?

Turns out, I'm still around after all these years. I ended up running the spacer and spring as shown in the first pic. The SWRs seemed acceptable to me and I ran a 979 with a DX500 for a year or so before selling my equipment and moving onto other pursuits. Now I'm back with a different...

Somebody give me the good, the bad,n the ugly on kenwood tmv71a

I think it's fantastic, I own 3. Clean, simple styling, straightforward controls, all the right features without the fluff. Separation kit is pricy but you can roll you own with some off the shelf cable and connectors.

    Magnum 257HP Power Adjustment

Is there any real activity from them? I know there was talk of bringing the Palomar name back to greatness, but I haven't heard anything in a while, beside them selling some transistors.

    Magnum 257HP Power Adjustment

@Big Kahuna Seems like there's a story to be told about RF Limited/Magnum (and others) that few know about unless they were there, with some sort of roots in the industry. Wish it was published or otherwise available to read about. Sounds like it was an interesting time, sort of a peak, when...

    Magnum 257HP Power Adjustment

@Big Kahuna and @Handy Andy, I appreciate both of your expert inputs on this issue. Although I may not always understand everything, I never fail to learn something new from your posts. I guess I'll leave the radio the way it is, and just be judicious on the use of the RF Power control...

    I won the Lottery

That wheel bearing setup is surprising. Most mfg are moving to completely sealed unit hubs. Seems like a waste, but can't deny how convenient they are to replace...

    Magnum 257HP Power Adjustment

Definitely not trying to squeeze every last watt out of this thing, 1.8W doesn't bother me so much I guess, more so the high power side of things. I've attached some pictures of the board, since I don't see any obvious other markings, though they might be hiding under the various boards bolted...

    Magnum 257HP Power Adjustment

Have a 257HP that does 1.8 or so watts with the variable all the way down, and a hair under 18w with the variable all the way up. I thought the high was a bit too much, so I looked inside and the VR that controls that was all the way down to the stop already. Turning it the other way indeed made...

Dusting off a Sweet Sixteen, everything look ok?

I'm looking at Mouser, any particular type of capacitor? Mouser lists: aluminum, audio grade, general purpose, high frequency, high temp, low ESR, low impedance, low leakage types for 3300uF 25V capacitors. I'm thinking general purpose is fine for this? Also, that value isn't so popular in...

Dusting off a Sweet Sixteen, everything look ok?

So the big yellow ones are incorrect, those are the filter caps you mentioned one is missing? I will replace all four. As far as the four capacitors I believe are missing, those are actually missing right, I'm not imagining things? I intend to have all of the parts that are supposed to be in...

Dusting off a Sweet Sixteen, everything look ok?

Thanks guys for taking a look. I will certainly examine the capacitors a bit closer and see if they are indeed burnt or just covered in flux. Also, thanks for identifying the thermal switch. Makes sense, as indeed the fans are hardwired to the power switch. The filter capacitor, is that the...
