I would agree to just get another radio. Any great solution will probably cost more than you can get a new radio for, if you just want simple AM CB operation. I find old radios in decent condition at yard sales, auctions, swap meets, etc. all the time for $5 a piece.
I still have an HOS violation and speeding ticket I got in Wyoming in 2003 that I never paid. Good thing the chances of me getting pulled over in Wyoming ever again are slim to none.
I don't think they have the authority. It would be like your state police arresting someone for being in the country illegally. They have no authority to do that unless there is an enforcement mechanism given to them in the law. The enforcement of anything regarding communication devices...
I think just about anyone could have repaired this one. It looked much worse than it was. A bit of bent metal was straightened out with a pair of pliers and everything fit back together just fine.
Update on this thing. I think it is actually a slight bit stronger than the Hakko. It seems to be at least as good. These Hakko stations sell used for $350-$400. This Quick unit sells new for $97.50 through Adafruit, and $90.25 at Tequipment.net. So far, I haven't been able to see any huge...
Export radios are not FCC approved for CB, but can nonetheless transmit on CB frequencies. That alone is a violation. The problem is, there is no enforcement mechanism given to the DOT anywhere I can see. It's certainly not in the FMCSA.
The Federal government did give states the right to...
Well, that was actually a very simple fix. I straightened out the sheet metal around the transformer , and put it back together and in place. I then removed the front pieces of the pots from the front panel, straightened out the sheet metal on those, put them back together, and bent the tabs...
I decided to buy a relatively cheap hot air station as a spare that gets good reviews, so I put in an order with Adafruit for a Quick 957DW+. When it got here, I opened it, and everything looked fine on the outside, but I heard a hell of a rattle that shouldn't be heard. Thinking it might be...
I just looked, and it appears they have updated much of their stuff. They still use a Tektronix 2465 oscilloscope, which I would guess is no longer supported. Their DC power source and measurement devices are old HP gear, but are still being produced by agilent. They have a new frequency...
I haven't heard that. I know I get good deals on broken test equipment from a standards lab near me. From what they have told me, the equipment comes in for calibration and repair, but they can't repair it, and often the company that brought it in just leaves it for them to dispose of. Many...
I sometimes think labs use calibration as a way to get in the door for repairs. Since parts are hard to come by for end of life equipment, they just refuse to do those repairs, because, in reality, they are just board swappers.
I caught a video of his once, and Youtube kept trying to feed me more of them in my recommended feed for two weeks. They are all the same. He acts like he's teaching something, and then says that in order to find the answer, you have to search through his videos, because he's not going to...
I think there are people that are willing to pass on information. The biggest problem is, they don't have enough time, or don't have the skills to teach.
There is also the problem that students often don't have the patience or time to learn.
I have had several people over the years say they...
As to what it does to SSB, AM and SSB modulation are linked, at least in all the radios I've looked at. Clipping the limiter removes some compression the radio was doing. In AM, it is audio compression, and in SSB, it is RF compression. Reducing RF compression reduces the signal to noise...
What I am talking about is screwing with the modulation limiter or level, not "loud audio" per se. Most people, when they want a radio that is "loud" are talking about doing something like this to it. It has multiple problems. First is that it makes the radio bleed all over the band, because...
I'm not sure what you mean by "audio punch", but if you mean what most people mean, it means you want it to sound loud, which is most often achieved by overmodulation, you will screw up a sideband radio by doing that.
If you want your voice to sound louder, get a powered mic that will use...
How does Simple Machines handle images? The php.ini file should limit file upload length, and any request to upload a file that is too big should fail. If it tries to store the images in the database, that could cause an issue, on top of being the absolute worst way to store images.
I was...
I pulled those old caps and put new ones in those spots. The old ones were kind of hammered after me pulling them and replacing them so many times while messing with this.
The strange thing is, it is acting like it was when the anode of one of the diodes was grounded, but I have tested the...
