Unlock a couple of Baofeng's for GMRS and you're good to go. No, they aren't legal according to the FCC. When has that stopped any of us?
You can find various models of them on sale for as low as $15 at times.
The service manual on CB Tricks has part numbers for potentiometers, but I have not been able to find them with a web search. You may contact Barkett Electronics, or R&R, and if you have have an actual business, with a business license, you can talk to Radio Shop Supply. They have a minimum...
I noticed that. It appears this radio doesn't sell for much, so paying $22 for a downloadable copy seems a bit much.
That could be helpful, although it won't likely help much with the alignment.
I have one, but I try and put things on my bench as little as possible. I figured that if I'm going to pull them out, I'll do it when I have the part to replace it, just in case. That way I don't have to clear my bench, open the radio, etc. more than necessary. This is my radio, so nobody is...
CB Tricks doesn't have the alignment procedure. They have a "tune up" procedure, which includes what appears to be unlocking the clarifier, and adjusting RF output power. I'm looking more for PLL alignment, receive and transmit alignment, etc. They don't have it there. It was good for...
Well, it's not taking to an alignment. I didn't have any of the finals or driver, so I ordered a handful of each. They should be here by the end of the week. The voltages at the finals are off, but they are high, not low. Since this is after the alignment, I think maybe the voltages are high...
I acquired a Sears SSB RoadTalker 40, model number 934.38310700, and I am looking for at least the alignment procedure for it, if not a service manual. Anyone have info on this radio?
Again, there is nothing wrong with cleaning electronics with water. I use water on surface mount boards all the time in the ultra sonic bath, and that is something I do multiple times a week. All surface mount boards get the bath in my shop after I have done anything with a surface mount chip...
Over the years, I have visited probably 20 "repair technicians", and of those, I would say that only about 1/4 to 1/3 of them had more in the way of test equipment than a watt meter and a multimeter. I think I only saw about 3 that had a signal generator, and only one had a spectrum analyzer...
I will do that when I get back to the shop. I'm not sure what finals it uses, off the top of my head. They could be weak, given all the nonsense that I found in that radio. Power turned up to fifteen volts, final bias way off, about everything that could be turned needed adjustment.
Well, I guess the IP can be traced to the area, but in this day of VPNs and TOR, it is quite easy to show up with an IP address that is not original.
Any way you look at it, it is highly suspect.
I don't know anything about this Tim guy, other than what I've seen of his videos, but just the...
This is humorous and sad. There is no way that a customer is coming here, creating a sock account, and singing the praises of any technician like this. The only time a customer is as tenacious as that is when they are angry, not when they are satisfied.
I highly suspect that DavidB is Tim...
Am I the only one that started in the '90s? I was 19 years old and found an old Realistic TRC-56 with the telephone style handset. I knew absolutely nothing about anything when it came to radios, but I started hearing people talking on the radio that couldn't hear me, due to a terrible...
What is really sad is how people are so easily excited about a few extra watts. You have to double your wattage in order to get 1 S unit increase in signal strength. You very quickly get diminishing returns. People think that if they are putting out 20 watts instead of 10 watts that they are...
Do you see meter deflection on RX, like when you are receiving a signal, but you just get no sound? Also, do you get any sound at all, such as static, but no RX? Have you plugged in an external speaker to see if you get sound there?
