Who always keeps "protection" handy???? (antenna related!)

well they do actually, they are full of mineralized water, and wet with rain, same reason they effect your signal path; a lot. And that water goes deep into the ground. My loops are on dry wood masts, so that might be a bonus. The path is , the path with potential to ground. The path of least...

Who always keeps "protection" handy???? (antenna related!)

Good point I guess we will go with the modern version, a plastic container, I think the idea is sound, with no ground potential very unlikely of a strike, I do have a grounded tower, as the high point, with arrestor, and ground rods on the wifi, so it should take the hit, it also grounds my...

Who always keeps "protection" handy???? (antenna related!)

I just unhook the radio, and push almost out outside, likely not the best idea, one idea I have heard people once did was to drop the end of your coax feed into a large empty glass jar. I presume this makes it super insulated offering very little ground potential, I think this will be my new...

    11 meter is very quiet?

That is a fact, the one that works, is the one you use. Great skip here today, hitting as far as florida, made dozens of contacts from here in Ontario Canada, even hearing Alaska on am.

    11 meter is very quiet?

What are your thoughts on out door MLA, would they out perform, a full wave loop antenna I get about 3 dbi over a dipole with one of my loops, and my 2 loops together get me 6 dbi, in a directional pattern. I have no experience with MLA, some people post they are great some say they are not so...

    11 meter is very quiet?

I keep forgetting, I am in the woods middle of nowhere. I have heard if you check some of these lot restrictions they infringe on your constitutional rights, and would not stand up in court. In the U.S.A I have heard you have some rights to an antenna in law, and these local laws will not stand...

    11 meter is very quiet?

I picked up a radio at a yard sale, and another guy gave me an antenna, so setting a young fella up with a free rig. I think cb has the potential to grow. Talk about it, help it along, One good thing where I live almost nobody running big power. So we have clear air to talk on when we do. One...

    11 meter is very quiet?

Keep calling, same where I live, but you slowly find people. Upgrading my antenna to an array is helping as well, getting out much farther , and making some new contacts. Skip is just about over here, got out once today, but the skip has a fast roll now that the cooler weather is here. Keep...

Base OMNIQUAD 6dbi wire antenna omni

When I look at this antenna, it would seem to just work out to be a vertical dipole like a biconical antenna. So to me the gain would not be 6, but rather closer to one, It would give, broad freq, response, but not seeing where the gain would come from, to me it is just 3 bent vertical dipoles???

Base OMNIQUAD 6dbi wire antenna omni

I download this antenna calculator, it says all gaps fed with ladderline???, not sure how this antenna works, but it looks like a good idea, there is no model information, can be downloaded, along with many handy calculators from this link. Anybody up to model this one? Anybody explain how you...

Base Best antenna of my life

Wish I knew, I know the tower is not ideal , as the one not on the tower works better for sure, than the one on the tower, and I am sure it effects out the back through the tower. I think the loops are high enough over the roof that all they would be doing is helping, maybe bounce some signal...

Base Best antenna of my life

Working on this design for a vhf, uhf, with 2 side by side sets of 3 elements each, with a screen reflector. Attached is my top hung home made 2 element quad, again on a wood pole with a pully at about 30 feet to the top; to low to work really well.

Base Best antenna of my life

The one on the left was widened in the middle, to drop the swr from 3's across to get 1.3's across the band, left loop is about 10 feet behind the other loop , and they are roughly 1/2 wave 18 feet apart center to center. The left loop is boom hung out 4 feet, off my new internet tower, at 52...
