Base Best antenna of my life

Some great info on phasing here, this is what I read that got me onto this. https://www.cbradiomemories.com/co-phased-antennas.htm It would appear from this link, I should now have a much more directional pattern that is narrow. Time will tell I guess with the 3b gain it has to come from some...

Base Best antenna of my life

Oh now you have me thinking I have read about this, it is very surprising the ammount of info on arrays, it seems to be a hot research topic, most of it a dry long read, but supper interesting. There is a lot of potential for steered arrays for sure.

Base Best antenna of my life

They put out an oval shape, like most loops not quite omni but not a null off the side, like the ends of a dipole, I will attach a picture of what they are said to be , and I would agree with this, I get out better I feel off the front and back. So almost round, some show them as kind of peanut...

Base Best antenna of my life

I have built just about everything I can think of, and was not happy, I have a 2 element quad, but it is at a lower height of 30 feet to the top, but it was not great at this height. I had the 2 loops on the roof, and both were fed with 50 feet of coax, and I stumbled across some array info on...

Base Best antenna of my life

I will try and get a photo tomorrow, they are about 36 feet to the feedpoint, swr is is flat at about 1.3 right acrooss all 40, the bearcats, built in swr has them at 1 to 1, right across. These are 2 rectangle vertical loops each side middle fed , for vertical polarization, both facing out...

Base Best antenna of my life

Had an interesting weekend. I have been building antenna now for a bit , and have owned a few, but lately been running full wave vertical loops. I was having trouble picking up a few of my locals, and I was determined to find a way to fix this. I have had two full wave loops on the roof for...

Need QUAD Expert for Spacing of elements

Thanks for your input everyone. Beam is up and tuned, seems to work well so far, looking forward to some skip soon. Ended up with the 63" boom, have swr of channel 1=1.0/1 channel 20=1.2/1 and channel 40=1.3/1 so well pleased with the swr.

Need QUAD Expert for Spacing of elements

The .15 sounds like what I am after , So 6 feet 5 inches sounds like more than I need maybe cut my boom for 5 feet, 6 inches and tune from there. Thanks for your reply, good info.

Need QUAD Expert for Spacing of elements

Good stuff guys, thank, you all. I think some of the problem with online info is the fact tht many people take a multi element beam , and use those measurements , just nocking off the directors.

Need QUAD Expert for Spacing of elements

I am feeding with 75 ohm coax, so do not need length to get a 50 ohm match. 5 feet does seem to be average commercial spacing (60" TO 63") Hoping to hear many ideas on this. Like I said, there seems to be many different measurements both commercially and in calculators. Most calculators, or the...

Need QUAD Expert for Spacing of elements

All about the forward gain for me, do not really care about front to back, as there is almost zero local here, and no real noise sources at all, I am many miles from any town. So 6'5" sounds like the plan

Yes Cebik is great have both his books, I will just build with the 6 feet 5 inch boom and tune from there.

Need QUAD Expert for Spacing of elements

But why such big difs, even in manufactured quads, anywhere from 3 feet to 8 feet?? for 2 el quad. 5 feet seems to be the most common. I am think of starting at around 6 feet 5 inch, spacing.

Need QUAD Expert for Spacing of elements

Ok, I am building a 2 element quad for 11 meters. I have checked many building plans, and many online calculators. None of them agree. For the spacing between driven element and reflector, I get everything from 3 feet to 5 feet to 8 feet, I get a number saying 62 inches and 63 inches, 67...
