Mine is a pb-208AD, and you are right!
This is where they clipped them off at the tone switch. I just couldn’t see it. Thank you so much, I really appreciate you taking the time to look at your grant xl for me.
I have the same problem, but with a grant xl. Mine has wires coming off the main board that are clipped off and I can’t figure out where they should be terminating at.
Maybe some much more knowledgeable members than me will be able to chime in and help you.
I would just sell it to someone that will pay stupid big bucks for it. Then get a not so nice 2000 to do the channel mods on it. To me it would be like finding a mint condition Chevelle ss, with 0 miles on it and then tearing it all apart to swap in a junkyard ls1 out of a 1999 Camaro. I think...
After the thunderstorms that rolled through yesterday day, and also reading the grounding in the shack thread. I also read the story about the guy that captain kilowatt knows, where he had an Antron 99 up on a mast with nothing but a ground rod, and a lightning strike blew the cabinets off his...
No I live in east Texas about 80 miles east of dfw, I should have said I could hear 420 Tampa, but I heard him say 543 Dallas a few times so he was talking to you when I heard him. But I’m too far away to hear you, at least with the antenna setup I have now, or if we have some really short skip...
For the last 4 months this has been my setup, three sections of Lowe’s chain link fence top rail buried two feet in the ground with about six 80lb bags of quick Crete, the bottom section is bracketed to the shed in the back yard. The Antron is about 30 ft to the base. If using rg213 with an ugly...
Small update, last weekend I completely recapped the main board of the radio.
Tomorrow I guess I plan on doing the dreaded counter recap.
I also need to follow the instructions kopcicle left for me.
And Andy I will back the board screws out and retighten, and reflow any pads as necessary...
Thanks for the input from everyone, and yes I do plan on recapping this radio, I haven’t decided yet on whether to remove the channel mods or not, I don’t tx out of band. I was actually hoping this thing would be in worse shape than it is lol. The original plan was to put the cheap Chinese freq...
Thanks nomad, there’s very little rust anywhere on this thing, I can’t say there is none, but I was surprised by how clean it was on the inside other than a layer of dust.
I bought this 1978 cobra 142 gtl on shop goodwill for $65.00 shipped to my door.
It was listed as for parts not working all the top cover screws are missing. The ad stated that the unit does not power on. I think they just plugged it into the wall with it switched to dc.
The radio works, it...
Bump, I can take any picture of any part or wiring on a factory unmodified cobra 2000 that any body needs if they can get me a picture of a uniden grant xl.
I want to know where these two wires go to.
I know I sold one to a member on here about 2 years ago. But I’m pretty sure I had two of them in good condition. I’ve been looking and I still think I have one, it’s just been misplaced. If and when it shows up. I will post here
The first Washington’s were branded president, they have two push buttons underneath the channel selector knob.... and had 858 pll chips in them and I would imagine a very similar board layout to a 139. A uniden Washington has three push buttons below the channel knob, and is pretty much...
