    HANGING A DIPOLE VERTICALLY

I'm confused too, the total length of that antenna should be about 18 feet, not just half of it. I hear what you're asking though. It doesn't really make any difference wich 'end' goes up, either way will work fine. Something you might want to keep in mind is that if it's at all possible, run...

In other words, it took a law to get any one to kiss'em. I can understand that...

Is it me or are CBers cheaper than hams?

To the original question, the answer is yes. Not that CB'ers are especially 'cheap', it's just that there tends to be a lot more CB stuff floating around than ham stuff. The requirements for CB equipment hasn't changed in a LOT of years, unlike ham stuff. So, more 'old' stuff is still around...

Static / Noise on VHF Radio

There's no telling what that noise may be, there are a lot of sources for it. I have to assume that it is probably ignition/fuel pump/etc. Would it be less if on a boat? Beats me, depends on the electrical systems and I know nothing about that. - 'Doc

    ??? 2 Radios

I don't think either will cover much of the 2 meter band. So, unless you can get them reprogrammed (good luck), not sure either would do much good. - 'Doc

    Wouxun KG-UV8D

First I've heard of it. Sounds like a nice radio, maybe. But then again, I'll see when it is being sold, if it lives up to it's advertising, and what the price is. Their mobile radio didn't quite make expectations... - 'Doc

Need help with antenna for a dump truck

Got a radiator out there on that nose of the truck? Is it metal? Is it connected electrically to the frame of the truck? Can you mount that antenna out there on that radiator? That would seem to satisfy the electrical requirements, I just don't care what the 'looks' of it would be. Would it...

Why most repeaters don't use TX PL codes?

You're right you receiver would only come 'alive' when it received that tone. But, it would also never hear things that did not have that tone on it. That seems to be a contradiction in terms if you want to hear all that's happening. If your repeater is that busy, or if it's being interfered...

6V computer speakers on my CB

I've used 'computer' speakers for some time. They tend to be smaller than others, are fairly inexpensive, and were usually because I'd replaced the speakers on the computer for some reason. I don't use the 'amplifier' part of them, only the speakers themselves. Computer speakers are fairly...

    mobile antenna to base !

Or, simply add a few radials to that metal plate, they would be the 'ground'. They should be something on the order of 9 feet or so, doesn't hurt if they are too 'long'. A ground rod may change your SWR, as the radials will, but it shouldn't be a large change. At 1.4:1 or 1.5:1 there's...

    Grounding mobile HF and tuner

The simple answer is, yes do the grounding. A slightly more complex way is to try it without a ground, then with a ground. That should tell you if it's absolutely necessary. It isn't a bad idea to do the grounding even if it isn't necessary. I wouldn't 'daisy-chain' them though. A separate...

    100 Watt Radios

C2C3PO, I think the 'vintage' stuff is sought after for a couple of reasons. Price is probably the biggy, and I can certainly understand that. Another reason, at least for vintage ham equipment, is that the 'newer' radios are not designed to do AM mode very well. They do certainly do AM but...

    mobile antenna to base !

If you can get the thing at least as high as if it were on a vehicle, and if you can add a usable counterpoise to it, then you would get the same performance as you would mobile. If that's "good enough" for you then that K-40 will probably do fine. Don't expect miracles from doing it that way...

    Antenna Suggestions

Which antenna is 'best'? I ain't going there, just too many variations on how/where/etc, you you have on that sort of thingy. If I had to recommend anything, I'd say that a "drill the hole" kind'a antenna is going to be better than any other type. And then it's a matter of where that 'hole'...

    Mobile amp wire size

Are you getting the feeling that you've been had? Well, yeah, but you gotta think about that a bit and figure out that you ain't exactly given enough information to really get a fair idea about what you ain't figured out, you know? So, back up and start from scratch, sort of. What isn't...

    Dr. Dipole

Dipoles are probably the most common antennas around. Several reasons for that, mainly cuz' they're cheap, and simple. I honestly don't know of any who have them at 'optimum' height, so that's not really a super biggy. If you don't 'clothes-line' yourself, it's probably high enough to 'work'...

    Maco 3 element beam project...

There are always 'two sides' to that interference stuff. Your stuff and their stuff. Either can be -the- problem, and YOU have to accommodate it to some ridiculous extent to keep any 'peace'. Yeah, well, that's the way it is. The biggest/strongest source of any RF that you can produce is your...

    Where to go from here?

ND88, I haven't read all of this thread so I'm probably duplicating a lot that's been said. So, take it for what it's worth. What it boils down to is that if you can't hear'em, you can't work'em, period. So, up-grade your antenna system (easiest/cheapest way out) to start with. That means...

If Schwarzenegger were a CB - Gladiator

If "Schwarzenegger were a CB - Gladiator" I would run so fast away from CB radio that I'd set Olympic records! Where'd that come from? - 'Doc
