Conditions have been pretty spotty here the last several days but I did manage to make a solid contact on 39lsb a few days ago. She's a talker! I really like how compact it is.
That was me. Conditions are strange here but I heard you calling. I'm trying to make a sideband contact on this TRC-465 I bought a couple of days ago for 30 bucks!
Snatched this off marketplace for $30 last night. All the knobs were a little loose so I pulled them, tightened the pot nuts underneath, and cleaned it up a bit. It's a talker on AM at least. I had a peak inside and it appears original. Still has the DIN mic plug too, yuk. Hopefully conditions...
Haha right on! By the way that barefoot station of yours is always sounding good up here just west of St Louis. It certainly inspires me to get something way up in the air.
Yeah it's hit and miss since I'm working with 12 watts (if I'm lucky). First antenna was a Sirio 5000 and second was an MFJ 12 meter telescopic that I only extend to 103". They both work great but all of the near by high ground is surrounded by trees and once again it was too windy for my wire...
Hey brother, thanks for getting back to me, that was my only WDX contact this weekend. Heard several other members and 16LSB was alive! I did a three day camping trip on the middle fork of the Black River in Black, Missouri. I was on a gravel bar surrounded by hills and didn't figure I'd be...
Sort of related, KDHX is an independent radio station out of St Louis, MO. They play just about every genre of music. Each time slot lasts one to three hours. You might here old country, native american traditional, metal, classis rock, soul, funk, blues, jazz... just about anything. Their...
Figured I'd try this bad boy out for stationary use in the wind. I just extend all top segments and leave the first segment about 1 inch extended, easy to tune. Works great.
You were getting out pretty good, I could swear I heard 306 Scotland try to get back to you on 37LSB at one point but you couldn't hear him. Double skip perhaps? The majority of stations I heard today were in CA and quite a few from across the Atlantic too. Weird conditions but it's all good, I...
Too windy to deploy the Moxon today, mud ducking on the mobile produced zero contacts. Part of it, good with the bad. I heard 917 make a solid effort on 16LSB but he couldn't hear me.
I set the Moxon up on our deck yesterday and tried it out with my old Tram and Gemtronics radios. I powered them from a 12v battery, not optimal but functional. While I did make a few contacts, I noticed random static.
Should I run a temporary earth ground to any of the components such as mast...
The antenna works better than I imagined. There's a photo of it deployed on the reclaim 16lsb thread. SWR was 1.2 on channel 1 through 5 and 1.0 on 6 through 40. That was according to the SWR function on the McKinley.
It was a great lesson on the importance of antenna height also. At 16 feet...
Right on! That contact was icing on the cake of an already great 3 days off. Thanks again for the QSO. I heard 945, 1340, and 163 making contacts with you but just barely. I literally packed up and left 15 minutes after that with a big grin on my face. That Moxon was dancing in the wind gusts...
I was at Taum Sauk Mountain State Park at the highest point in Missouri but surrounded by pine trees. I tried getting back to 917 but he couldn't pull my numbers out of the noise. Too windy to deploy the Moxon yesterday, may try today. I thought I heard someone else try to get back to me but all...
