Kind of sounds like a tuned in-put problem with the radio. Try another antenna or dummy load if possible.

My wife and I use murs channel 1 and there is KNOWONE else on the freq. That really suprizes me because we are in a very populated area.

Does GMRS interfere with the neighbors at 50 watts? Normally UHF does not interfere with to much, I never had any problems.
