My Grant XL's have given me the same impression. I think my Kenwood TS 430 had much better rx than my Icom. At least to the point that I could notice it on the same antenna. Too bad it's so darn big for a truck.

The exports are mostly about RF output and mod. I've had a few of them and for CB SSB the Cobra 148 and Grant XL ( same thing) is hard to beat. Not RF or mod monsters but great RX. A ton of easy modifications and easy to find. If you want better, get an HF rig.

Start with the most simple things. Is the antenna pointed in the same direction as the rotor indicates? Also test using the same transmitter. Variables should be eliminated for a valid test. Please post the construction of the antenna. Guys on here way smarter than me could then maybe...
