I worked VC2VQ with 5/9 signal report. Not to bad for 100watt and a G5RV shorty which is broadside north/south and Quebec is more due east of me.

I worked V73RY (Randy) on the Island of Kwajalein,Rep of the Marshall Is.
This was done back on 1/13/08 on 15 meters with 100 watts and an antron 99........QSL card is now on my wall:) Good DXing

Tony i like both of these radios and really dont think the ft-920 would be a trade down. You would gain 6 meters along with DSP. Inrad also offers a 2.8 khz filter. Inrad also has a filter switch board that allows you to use one filter or two in cascade ....way cool. Pair ft-920 with yaesu...

Both are great rigs. Infact someday i would like to add an ft-990 to my arsenal as my dedicated HF rig,but for now my ic-761 is hard to beat. Anyway back to your ?.......until you upgrade to general your band plan is limited . The ft-920 would give you 10m as well as 6 meter with 100...
You can't go wrong with ft-857d......lot of features.BIG bang for the buck.
I have ft-857 non D model for mobile use,great radio,easy menu.....no issue's.Good luck

Great contacts. 20 meters is busy when theirs a contest,it's kinda like shooting fish in a barrel. Here is what i did on saturday both on 15m and 10m. Total 58 contacts in 7 hours,here is a list of some of my DX contact outside the U.S.:
