    Parallel connection of Plate Transformers

I'll use a 3rd transformer to place low volts on primaries. The internal xfrmr connects to HVPS board with 1.5' of 22awg HV wire. I'll need two, 5' lengths of HV wire to connect external xfrmr secondary. Can I use the same 22awg HV wire or does the 4' difference in wire length justify...

    Parallel connection of Plate Transformers

Thank you for the helpful Replies. I'll need to temp disconnect the mounted xfmr to make the low voltage comparisons. The Primaries don't matter? Appears I can pass on the Dot Convention Tester as I can't justify it now. My request for help on the FT-891 Keying issue got a detailed Reply...

    Parallel connection of Plate Transformers

Following 2 paras are cut & paste from other forums that address my Rabbit Hole option: "You can dependably connect 2 AC sources IF they are synchronous or can be made synchronous assuming they are at about the same voltage level and can supply matching currents of similar impedance. Fuses...

    Parallel connection of Plate Transformers

Not as simple as I thought. Preparing to connect 2 Heathkit 54-30transformers: Single Pri/Sec windings for 110v to 1800v at 400mA with a CT. I need more plate current. The 54-30's are potted with no markings regarding phase (direction of windings around core), I don't have an oscilloscope but...

    2x 4cx300a note

Settled on SHV connectors. $16 for two pair, panel mount females, new from China. USA-made prices 3 times as high which I can't justify on a homebrew experiment, at best. Rated to 5kv more than double the VAC used. Damn keying circuit driving me nuts, I'm considering a CB type COR to trigger...

    2x 4cx300a note

Had to delete the words about the Keying Interface. There will be more about this. I can say that the only thing inside of it is a small 12v Omron relay Q6K-2F-Y and nothing else. Low plate current has limited amp output but yesterday I got lucky on eBay. Found another 54-30 plate...

    2x 4cx300a note

Ordered a Keying buffer/interface from associate radio on ebay. No way around this unless I make one. Keying ain't what it used to be. Been tweaking here and there. I had to relocate the Soviet vacuum relay. Linkage kept jamming. It is the B1B-1B model which was the cheapest I could find at...

just because you can, doesn't mean you should. I get that lol.

Is the grass really so green on the Auto side of ATU's? 500 & KW ATU's

Assembled: $255. https://newdiytech.com/products/atu-atu-1000w-antenna-tuner Kit form: $150 https://newdiytech.com/products/atu-1000-atu1000-atu-1kw-atu1000w-automatic-antenna-tuner-7x7-atu-1000w-by-n7ddc-diy-kit Based on N7DDC Auto ATU board I've never used an Auto ATU but the price has...

    2x 4cx300a note

I'm beginning to PO with antennas. 20M remains difficult to find & Tune, almost impossible and when do-able it beats the snot out of the tubes. It's my next problem to solve. Maybe the plate choke (it lost a few turns over the years. 10 & 15 will tune with less fuss and 40 is a can't miss...

PEP Conversion for DRAKE W-4 Wattmeter

What sort of battery llfe are you having on the W-4 & Peak kit? I've heard people w/ Bird meters complain about batteries dying when left On overnight. Is that a problem with Phil's board? I installed Phil's board in a W-4 last May '23 but wired to a PSU and yes, the extra wire can be a fuss...

2kv Amp Tune Cap relay controlled? Experiment

It took more time than expected but relay is holding up under zsac key-up. Amp still on bench so I'll try fully connected soon. Recognize that relay is NO when not on 80 and the never under power when contacts make/break. It only connects 2 sides of the air variable Tune cap and stays closed...

2kv Amp Tune Cap relay controlled? Experiment

On point as always Nomad, no substitute for experience. Single pole vacuum latching would be efficient, I presumed the Soviet model I put in the plate circuit was 26v because it was Soviet. From a vacuum part search I found that many Western RF switches also use 24-26v coils...

2kv Amp Tune Cap relay controlled? Experiment

Relay connected. 12v to relay coil bypassed with caps to ground at toggle switch. The coil wire is Audio shielded cable covered in RG8x vinyl jacket. Later today try it.

2kv Amp Tune Cap relay controlled? Experiment

An experiment for sure and 80m only as the rest of the bands ok with only 1 section of the tune cap. Yeah, the Tune cap gets brutal but, I'll post what happens when I attempt to run it into DL.

2kv Amp Tune Cap relay controlled? Experiment

Will this this 12A IDEC relay survive being connected to the Tune cap? I've seen longer Tune leads on factory amps. Tune cap is a 2-section affair where 2nd section only for 80-40. I need a way to switch the second section in & out. Tune cap is a punishing location but the lead lengths are...

    T-Match vs L-Network

I removed the ATU after identifying bands each antenna works alone w/ analyzer. This was part of my effort to have amp work on antenna with cover attached instead of on bench into DL without any cover attached. It's progress albeit baby steps as it's still into DL. I did not expect the cover...

    T-Match vs L-Network

That sums up my situation spot-on. Thank you for the added insights. I will replace my coax (>3 decades) and reassess the ATU afterwards. I find it hard to replace coax because it looks OK from the outside lol. HF is so quiet lately, low noise level just not hearing any activity.

    T-Match vs L-Network

I've been using a Dentron T-Match that's inefficient and it's increasingly noticeable. It appears that an L-Network is more efficient and very do-able using the same Dentron case. So it prompts the question, 'Why Dentron or other manufacturers always made T-Matches instead of L's given the...

Motor Mouth Mauldulator. Well done, but not done well.

"Cathedral" that's the best descriptive word for it that I've ever seen or heard.
