    Sirio 5000 and Wilson 5000

When you get finished thumping your chest, you'll see that you gave Trucker442 bad advice Connor.

With all these safety crush zones, the seat bolt may not be grounded at all!
  4. GnG8d

    Sirio 5000 and Wilson 5000

Correct. Connor thinks radios have their boards connected to their chassis at DC, and I've never seen one built that way.

You aren't paying attention and following along.

    Sirio 5000 and Wilson 5000

I've never touched a Cobra, Uniden, Galaxy, Ranger or General that had the chassis and board tied together at DC ground. The link Connor shared months ago from W8JI showed exactly what I'm talking about and he refused to see it. It just isn't there.

    Sirio 5000 and Wilson 5000

And there is NO continuity there. You're looking at pictures and it's got you confused. Connect the ground of you meter or scope to the chassis and try to set DC voltages on the board and get back to me.

    Magnum s6175 radio

    You missed that one :)
  9. GnG8d

    Sirio 5000 and Wilson 5000

That's hogwash. The board and chassis are isolated at DC, coupled at RF, but isolated at DC.

    Newbie ?

You're grounding at the breaker panel and not making a ground loop, right?

    single final wattage

If there is no need to measure the peak envelope, then the peak envelope must be useless, but we all know the audio is what makes the peak envelope. A carrier doesn't convey a whole lot of information without it, so it makes as much sense to measure pep on AM as it does SSB.

    single final wattage

That's incorrect as well. Changing/modifying components to ring it out is one thing, peaking a resonant circuit is another. A resonant circuit needs to be peaked to transfer the most power to the load, or it is lost as heat within the circuit.

    single final wattage

If you want to discuss the efficiency of AM and SSB, we can do that. But you said the peak envelope of an AM signal is useless which is absolutely incorrect.
  14. GnG8d

    single final wattage

It's all the same, the audio is in the sidebands, not the average carrier.
  15. GnG8d

    single final wattage

    What are you talking about?
  16. GnG8d

    single final wattage

The difference in avg and pep is carrier vs audio. You're saying you use an average reading meter when you run ssb, but why?
  17. GnG8d

    single final wattage

You know better than that, we've already discussed this.

    Signal Engineering White Lightning 4

JJD just recently bought an L4, but he didn't take measurements or notes before putting it in the air. Maybe you can talk him in to lowering it for the sake of some documentation.

    Ranger 2970N2

I dunno, I had an N2 on base and I hung it on it's bracket. The fans pulled the heat out via the heat sink, and I never had a heat issue with that radio.
