Finally bought a Sirio 5000 to try...

I can watch the sheet metal flex on both the car and the truck...

Finally bought a Sirio 5000 to try...

Since there were indications that the NEW Wilson 5000 on the truck was "acting up", I swapped the Sirio onto the truck for the weekend. Here are things I noticed: Swapping the OLD Wilson 5000 back onto the car caused several notable things. First, I have less feedback through the AM/FM...

Your guys favorite fiberglass antenna choices

I always like the Wilson Silverload with the matching wire, they always seemed to perform well and match well. What typically happens with a fiberglass antenna is that the small gauge wire wrapped around the mast breaks at the transition from the metal base to the fiberglass mast because that...

    help with galaxy 959

I ran one for about five years, and probably 350,000 miles in a pickup. It never gave trouble.. HOWEVER... Mine was boogered right out of the box too...I took it to a shop to ve fixed, so I'm no help. It never gave any trouble from there out. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G730A using Tapatalk

    Medium-sized amp suggestions

When I was running my PC76 (which is pretty close to your Cobra 29), I want to remember I was doing around 100 watt dead key and right around 400 watts of swing. While that doesn't sound all that much, its more than enough to get the job done and the amp will last practically forever.

    Medium-sized amp suggestions

A Cobra 29 will not need "turned down" to run a straight 4-pill amp...even well tuned, a Cobra 29 couldn't over-drive a 4-pill. That's why they are a better choice for most people...they are truly set and forget. I ran a Grant XL, PC76, and a DX959 into a 4x1446 box I had at one point; none of...

Finally bought a Sirio 5000 to try...

But that base load is nearly 10" tall...that WON'T flex. Again, on the car that is under five feet tall; its not an issue. But my truck is around 7 to 7.5 feet tall, and branches do happen to hang down into the travel lanes from time to time. That's my concern...a low limb clipping the load...

I've seen guys use a circular saw blade as a washer...not sure how that helps in the grounding department. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G730A using Tapatalk

    100 Watt Radios

I think the reason most CB/Export radios fail prematurely is that the golden screwdrivers are only worried about getting the most watts on a meter to impress the guy who brought the radio to them in the first place. Couple that to a bad install, and poof; magic smoke. I bought a Connex 4600T...

    Where to go from here?

The first question I have is whether you have had the radio aligned? I had a newer mosfet-version of the DX959 and it was in bad shape right out of the box: the clarifier was off center, the biasing circuit was fried, and it was off frequency in a bad way. Among other things. That was a NEW...

The whip isn't my concern, the elevated base is...tall truck, low branches. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G730A using Tapatalk

Finally bought a Sirio 5000 to try...

If I place the Sirio on my truck, assuming the Sirio is 6.5ft; I will be well over 13.5ft and probably closer to 14ft. Couple that to the fact the base of the Sirio is tall and prone to tree branches, and the smallish mounting surface installed on sheet metal. I'm rethinking my approach on...

    What amp

What I found is that these newer cars have the voltage controlled by temperature. The voltage will change greatly from day to day, which obviously affects the power output of the radio that in turn drives the amp. The current truck I own (a 2012 Silverado) will charge anywhere from 13.8VDC to...

I'll be glad when its over...

I guess my main complaint is why 19 when they know its the main channel used by locals and drivers? I know most of the operators doing it are just trying to prove they can talk skip on 19, and for no other reason; especially when they have 119 other channels (assuming SSB and AM). 19 might as...

    What amp

Unless you intend to have a variable installed, and run a meter to keep an eye on levels; don't get a 1x4...they are very touchy on input. A straight 4-pill is a whole lot more forgiving...

I'll be glad when its over...

See, I guess everyone is different... I've done the DX thing, not my cup of tea...yeah, I've made contacts all over the US, and to Grenada and Jamaica; its not like it didn't work out. It lost its fidazzle for me after a few weeks. I'd much rather be able to talk real time, direct to someone...
