Keep in mind I'm talking about two different Wilsons...the old one still works fine, its the newer one that seems to have issues.

FWIW: you will see almost no difference in DX between the Wilson and a 102/108 whip...the most you will see is about an additional S-unit of white noise with the 102/108.
I ran both, swapped them back and forth all the time on the last truck, that was my findings...neither one worked better...
OK, been running a few days with the Sirio on the car. Subaru Outback Wagon, hole is drilled.
Almost a flat 1:1 on all 40 channels with the Sirio, not much different with the Wilson. Both jump to 1.6:1 with the TS on...
I guess I can't see much difference because I'm mobile and moving most...
...when the solar cycle is gone and the bands are quiet...and I no longer have to listen to the doofus's trying to talk skip on channel 19 when they know that's the main channel the drivers use...
That is all.
:D
I just bought a Sirio Performer through HY Electronics without a problem...
One thing to keep in mind that (at least with the Wilsons) running power through a mag mount might cause the paint to bubble...I've done it to two different trucks.
Drilling that first hole is painful, but well...
I used to think that way, but I have never had a radio (either low oh r high powered) or amp fail in the last 25 years. Its just not that common if you start with good equipment and good tech.

Well...on the car it will barely deflect the needle on all 40. On the truck its 1.6:1 on 19, its 1.2:1 on 1 and 2.0:1 on 40.
So I left it on the car, probably order another for the truck if it works out.

You'll likely not find a "nice looking" 40A rocker switch...even a 40A relay won't be the norm.
DelCity has a pretty good selection of standard ice-cube relays, with some that are 70A IIRC? They may also have a rocker switch, but that's a lot of juice to be running through a switch under...
Yes, you should see a significant increase over 4 watts. 4 watts - 16 watts - 64 watts - 256 watts - 1024 watts and so on.
Keep in mind that most DXing is dependent on conditions, and not so much power. If you don't have good conditions, added power won't mean anything.
Input requirements? As in electrical or signal?
It will probably draw around 40 amps on a typical 12VDC system.
Each 2879 transistor should take around 5 watts PEP of input for a 100 watts PEP (rated) output...so around 20 watts PEP or swing is about right. I think that's what I...
